Jet black Supurb on twenty-twins, 56K no

EBPcivicsi

GOT PREP?
At least that what's they call them in Memphis. :D

Exterior only a late model surburban, <15,000 miles, can’t you tell by the paint?

This sucker really challenged me, I tried five different combos on my test spot before deciding. The paint was really hard.

Process was:

Wash, door jambs too so that I didn’t have any “runs while buffing

Clay

Dry

Blow out cracks, crevices

Polish with Meguiars #84 @1750 RPM’s with a polishing pad

PB’s SSR2 via cyclo and orange pads

Adams butter wax

OCW

I used hi temp prep wash to remove the splatter and clean all trim.

Wheels polished with NXT metal polish

Tires and trim dressed with hyper dressing 1:1

No Touch tire dressing in wheel wells

NXT glass cleaner and a WW on the glass

You *have* been busy! Nice. Very similar to the job I did on the black rent-a-Suburban but I'm know you did it *much* faster than I did. That #84 was a good way to go, wish I'd tried that. Yeah, that clear surprised me too.

All I can say is ...All work no play.

How many hours did you put on that beast? :scared:

Looks great , how was #84 to use ? anything like #83 ? I just started using Hyper Dress , how are you applying it to tires ? I tried spraying it but the sprayer I used left it looking blotchy so than I wiped it on this took care of that but the gloss was real high . I deluted it following the High gloss directions.

I tried HT heavy cut, HT extreme cut, and optimum compound before going with the #84. IMO, the meguiars 80 series products really excel when used with the rotary.

I may have done it faster, but I am sure yours looked better!! :xyxthumbs

Rollman, I use a tire dressing applicator to apply the hyper dressing. It is diluted 1:1 and I am absolutely loving the look. No blotchyness here at all.

klnyc, 6 hours total, including load/unload time.

Thanks everyone!!

Just noticed that I didn't really answer your question about the #84. It behaves just like #83 for me, obviously stronger though. Polish until it just about gets clear/blotchy, then stop. Do not buff to the point wear the polish begins to disappear or you will get buffer swirls (I am sure you know this).

Wow, now I don't feel that bad.

I did a black CTS yesterday and had a HELLUVA time on the paint. It just did not want to clean up, but I see this is common with GM paint. This is the 3rd black GM that I've had trouble with :(.

Anyways, you did an excellent job!

How did you like the butter wax?

Wow, the HT stuff wouldn't do it?!? That's a good indication of how bad the thing really was. Guess I shoulda tried something really aggressive but I was a bit leery about messing up and having to explain to Enterprise (and writing a check to fix it).

HA! I sincerely doubt that! Heh heh, and I sorta cheated too (well, you know what I mean ;) )by using #80 and a little #5 before the LSP.

Sheesh, I took *way* over twice as long, spread over a few days :o

Perhaps it was the paint, but the HT products did not work. It may have been my technique as I have not perfected the use of the HT levelers. I get these gummy tid bits that sling like crazy, too much product I think.....hmm, so I try less and work a smaller area only to see buffer swirls. I will keep trying them though, I am sure it is user error.

Thanks Scott!!

The car looks great now. But those front discbrakes look very small inside those rims, but that's not your fault.

If you're doing a lot of it, you'll get used to GM paint. GM is 95% of what I work on so I know by now that if I think a defect will come out with, say, #82, I might as well step up to #83 and not waste my time. :hairpull

Nice work on the burban, epbcivicsi!

Awesome work! I really enjoy looking at your work. It seems I may have to try out some Hyper Dressing, I like the look (at least on the computer screen) plus its water based :xyxthumbs
