I teamed up with Joe from Orinda Auto Detail to help him with a new client of his who wanted new Tesla Model S P85 corrected and coated with Opti-Coat Pro. Normally a job like this would be dropped off, but it was just beyond the range of the Tesla's battery. We decided a road trip was in order as no one was able to help this guy, so we stepped up!

We got on the road for the 5hr trip the night before and arrived at about 3am at the client's home. After 5hrs sleep we got right to work. 15hrs later (30man hours) we were done correcting and coating the paint and drove home that same night....getting back home at 4am. It really was a marathon trip as when we got back we both had to work later that morning. But at the end of the day, the client was happy and that's what matters!

I did the wheels while Joe polished the glass, getting it ready for Optimum Opti-Glass

I started taking measurements on the paint to check the thickness and Joe began taping off the trim. Thin readings at the bottom of the car, as expected.

This car being new did NOT mean it was defect free by any means

EurekaP8537.jpg

Now that's better

Here I am working the driver's fender

Here's Joe working the front end. It had....issues. I compounded all the doors and the back end while he did the front, that's how bad the hood and bumper were.

More progress on the doors, now swirl and scratch free

The driver's rear quarter had some nasty deep scratches.....

Much better!

These nasty scratches were courtesy of the owner's dog

50/50 shot after compounding. More gloss and clarity would be restored with the next polishing step

There were some really deep scratches on the bumper and it took quite a bit of effort to remove them.

Much better

These were particularly deep and took some delicate compounding to safely remove.

At this point the majority of the compounding was done but we were losing daylight so we brought it outside to verify the correction we were seeing under the lights. Looked good, so we continued.

Didn't have time to photo-document the final polishing process, but here are the results. This one Joe took with his phone, and the gloss is incredible.

Now I'm lying down on the job and laying down some serious Opti-Coat Pro!

Thanks for looking!

Awesome work guys! I take it you drove 5 hours North? Otherwise you would have been close to my neck of the woods but the scenery looks way to nice to be So-Cal

I would have a hard time going to sleep in a strange place no matter what time I arrived. Congrats on that alone much less the bang-up job you both hammered out

:rockon

Hey Joe what is the tape on the Rupes for? Also how did you guys handle those really deep scratches? Just multiple passes compounding? Wet Sand?

You two should be mentioned with the great duo's in history. Great write-up, great photos and excellent work!
