Jeep headlight resurface

Concourse Detail
Today I did a quick headlight resurfacing on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. More and more customers are having this service done. More money in my pocket. :rockon

The before pics look much worse in person then in the pictures.:yikes: I think the clearcoat wore off a long time ago. These lenses were severely pitted and very rough. I was happy with the outcome.

I used 3M 600,1000,1500,2000 grit wet sand paper. Then, SSR2.5 with a blended wool pad. Next, SSR1 with an orange foam pad. This pad is about as agressive as the LC white. Made two passes with that combo. Then a black pad with PP, and finally a nice coat of EX.

Could they be a little better? I think so but it's just for the lot and they don't want to pay for perfection. Comments welcome!:)

nice job, but isn't it sad that they faded like that in just 7 years :wall I remember when headlights used to stay clear for 20 years :ideaoh yeah that's when they used to use glass :D

Steve it's a Chrysler remember that.:lol2: The only cars that I've seen where the lights hold up are the 2000 and up Buick Lesabre. For some reason they always look perfect.:hmmm: That job killed the rest of my SSR's you'll be hearing from me soon.:)

:lol2: my grandfather's car is a lesabre, :hmmm: I'll have to take a second look at it

Nice recovery. The UV coating is starting to peel on the headlights of my 2004 Santa Fe...:(
Here in lies the rub. If the coating is still in good shape you can clean them up the crystal appearance will last. From time to time you'll see a vehicle that literally has this coating peeling/rolling up. Sometimes the protectant is gone but you can't see that it is missing. If the coating is gone you'll be able to clean it up and it will sparkle but they'll be yellow again in 3 months time. I've found that this protective coating is harder than the unprotected plastic. If the lens is yellow and has a lot of little rock nicks/pitting (sand blasted appearance) in it chances are the coating is gone (it wears like clear coat). You can plan on repeating the process frequently or start looking into new lenses.
