Will Trim Restore work on this?
Clean /Scrub with APC then apply TR?

TR will make that look brand new again. It has a bit of wax residue on it so what I would do is first brush TR on it with a new foam or bristle brush once the TR soaks in for a minute or 2 I would begin to scrub at that wax residue with a cotton terry towel with some TR on it until the residue is gone. If it is real stubborn use an all purpose cleaner but apply the TR first and again after scrubbing with APC.

A dried out door handle like that will instantly absorb wax into it so I ALWAYS apply my TR before doing anything else including the wash because the TR treated trim cleans up easier after being treated. Apply TR to all the exterior trim on that jeep before the wash and again just before you apply your wax then you can wipe the entire vehicle clean all at the same time. TR will prevent wax from staining the trim in case of slips with your applicator.

Thanks Dave. My jeep has been abused a good bit. I boiught it with 88 k on it and the paint is beat up and many scratches and paint chips. I'm trying to polish a T&*d I guess but I like her.

You're welcome, I have turned a lot of T&*ds into gleaming chariots of amazement. Labor of love my man, just have fun with it.:bigups

Your going to need to apply a few coats over time, that's what I have found with plastic that looks like that. But the good news is the PB TR will bring that back to life again

Ok I received my PB's and My Chemical Guys shipments today and I have next week off for Staycation.
Looks like I'll be able to spend some quality time with the Jeep and the Vette. Maybe even the wife.
I'll work some photos in and compare Trim Restore on one handle, VRP on another,Adam's VRT on one and also Fade 2 black on the other.

Please follow up on this test as I am very interested in seeing how these other products fare in the long run. Don't forget to document which door handle has which product on it. I do that sometimes, I do a side by side comparison then I forget which side has which product. first I'm like:inspector: , then I'm like:drool: , then I'm like:bigups , then I'm like:hmmm: then I'm like:wall and finally I'm like :passout:

Something tells me that the TR is going to win in the long run but I have been wrong in the past. These kind of comparisons are what I mean by "have fun with it" :yourrock

I have finished my 4 way product review using Adam;s VRT, Chemical Guys VRP, Poorboy's Trim Restore and Chemical Guys Fade 2 Black.
I decided to post it on my own site as some of these are not sponsors here and wasn't sure how the comparison would be taken.
BEWARE!!The review is picture intensive.

Enjoy.

Thanks good write up

One thing that I have found with plastics like that, and I had that same jeep color and all. Is once they reach that state, you have to apply multiple applications to get the oils to soak into the plastic over time. It will stay darker for a longer period of time but will require regular applications. That's been my experience

I should also add that I use PB TR and another product from P&S called Bumper Coat

Interesting review. Is the CG product the one that is currently shipping?

It is nice to have several trim products since some seem to work better with some plastics than others so have more than on in the arsenal.

I have some Adam's in and Out Spray that I have used a little but from what I read I should have no expectation on durability - best for under hood and indirect areas.

Great Test!!

You have to do more than one application with the TR on a plastic that is that far gone.... it actually works from the outside in per say. It needs to suck it up a couple of times and than it can start looking good on the outside.

I would put an application of TR on the TR handle let it sit on overnight don't buff off till the morning. Buff off with a COTTON towel (shouldn't use microfiber it absorbs to much) than apply another coat let sit as long as you can (maybe another overnight) buff off with cotton and probably one more application should do the trick. Than you will get the durability that you were expecting from the product :rockon you also will not have to do the multiple application step once you have rejuvenated the trim just the normal one step let sit 15 20 min than buff off :bigups

Bunky the CG VRP I just got last week. So Yes it's the current product.

I will do 2 more coats on all and add to the review. I'll do Just as Pockets suggested to make sure I've applied it as I should.

The thing is many people want a one coat wonder. Put it on and walk away.

I understand that this Jeep has been neglected in this area. That's kinda why I thought it would be a good test.

Thanks for the feedback.

  • just remember to buff with cotton as Pockets said, if you do not want to see running in the rain ;)

Thanks for the comparison. I myself have to decide on a trim restorer for my cars, with your great work i think i have found my solution.
