On Sunday, I decided to polish and clean the windshield on the woman's Envoy. It was replaced several weeks ago and still had a film on the outside that caused smearing when the wipers were used. The wifey wanted me to "put some of that stuff" on the windshield to make things better.
I used some Meg's Medallion Premium Paint Protection that I had around to clean the windshield. I then busted a Diamondite Glass Protection kit I've had for a couple years now. The spray clay's propellant had become exhausted, so I just used their glass cleaner and followed it with the protectant layer. I've had good success with this stuff before and I expect to get the same results.
Since I had the PC out, I figured I'd hot the roof with some Menzerna Acrylic Jacket. I probably shoud have clayed it first, but it was the roof. I just wanted to clean it up a bit and get some protection up there. I added a layer of Natty's Blue for extra protection. Sure, I probably should've used something more durable like a sealant, but I grabbed the Natty Blue first.
I should've stopped there. I had to get dinner strarted (rib roast on t he smoker), but I figured I had time for a one step touch up to the exterior. It really needed to be fully polished and all, but that just wasn't in the cards. I wasn't feeling that productive. It was a Sunday after all.
This was just going to be a quickie.
I hit the entire exterior with Polish with Carnauba - Blue and a black CCS pad at speed 4 on the PC. With all the focus on true polishes and the like, I thin I forget about how well an all in one product really can work. The finish looked great and was very slick. The truck looked much better.
Although I could've stopped, it was still light out. I started up my smoker (that dinner thing was coming up) and grabbed a blue LC pad. I did half the vehicle with some EX I had around (antique paper label bottle) and then put the roast on the smoker. I figured dinner was pretty important and I would need at least three hours to smoke this thing. Once that was buttoned up, I finished my EX application.
After half an hour or so, I buffed everything off. The paint really looked black and was very slick. I forget how much I like the original EX, especially on the black paint of the Envoy.
I dressed the tires and hit the wheels with some of the Menzerna Acrylic Jacket. My jar of PB Wheel Sealant had run out and I didn't feel the need to pull one out of inventory. I am trying to reduce my arsenal to a reasonable level.
Sure, the truck really needed a full detail. There were some swirls and the paint wasn't as smooth as it could be. The lease/Smart Buy is up a the end of April, so I figure it will get a full detail at that point. I just wanted to hit it quickly.
By the time I was done, it was close to sunset. The clouds had been out and I never took pictures. Besides, my favorite picture spot (the cul-de-sac) had a big dirt pile from some construction they are doing. I'm not a big fan of pictures of a black vehicle int eh shade. It may look nice, but any clean vehicle with black paint looks good in the shade.
Oh yeah, the rib roast turned out great. I had never smoked one before. It was rare all the way through instead of medium on the outside and rare in the middle. I'm getting very good at this BBQ thing. I have lifelong Texans wanting tom know the secrets to my brisket.
