It might be time to say goodbye

I didn't know where to post this, but I needed to share what has happened to me. It is with greatest distress that I have to share with you the demise of my 3g. I over turned to avoid a truck tire on the highway, then over corrected and the rest was history. I slammed into the guard railing on highway 75 in ocala, fl at 2am after 2 360s. I was returning to school with a friend of mine.

Front bumper, hood, headlight, and part of the right fender are gone. Air bags did not deploy or it would have been a complete "total," and the car was running to actually get me home 30 miles away, even though the car was shaking very bad at 50mph. No check engine light is on, but all of the brake related lights- ABS, traction, and brake- are on. The SRS and battery light is also on.

I cannot pop my hood but I can see that the engine bay is well intact. I have an appointment to get the car checked out on wednesday by allsate. I feel that my suspension components might be damaged, as well as the ABS and traction system. We shall see, but I'm thanking God that my friend and I are okay.

I'm sorry to see this. You will bounce back strong. You and your friend are safe and that's the important thing.

Sorry to hear about the accident but happy you were able to walk away. That was a beautiful 3G but don't worry... I'm sure you'll have as much fun on your next project. :D

Never swirve for anything that is lower than bumper height, straddle it, and hope for the best.

Glad to see you 2 are ok, Florida highways are death traps.

JBM that is what I have done in the past, is that taught in Florida's drivers education?

eclipsegt05 I am glad that you are not injured, your health is the most important thing.

like everyone else you being alright is more important. hoods and fenders and bumpers and whatnot can be replaced, your life or your friends life cannot. i cant believe the airbags didnt go off.

eclipsegt05,

Good to hear you and your friend are okay. To me the damage does not look too bad. It appears to be a "glancing" blow with not much actual direct frontal impact, therefore the airbag/s did not deploy.

I hope that once it is properly surveyed the repairs will not be too significant.

if you want to have some positive aspect from this whole bad situation, now you can upgrade to a sweet bodykit that you might have always wanted, or an aftermarket hood. hope all works out with the insurance guy, and hopefully your suspension stuff is alright, as i know all too well how expensive suspension can be.

Glad you are ok :xyxthumbs

I hope you are able to bring that car back. That is the nicest Eclipse (let alone a 3G) I have ever seen. It looks repairable to me. Is there any frame damage?

Coulda been a lot worse, but still sorry to see/hear.

Your Eclipse was one of the few I liked (ever). Good Luck with everything.

Thank you guys for all your kind and supportive words...I'm truely honored to be a member of Autopia amongst you great and kind people.

Spirits are a little down, but I'm hoping that the car can be fixed.

GS-R Jay: I don't think I have any frame damage. the hit was very hard, but I don't think it even penetrated to the radiator. In addition, my air bags didn't deploy, which I think is a result of the SRS light on my gauge cluster being on before the accident (there is nothing wrong with the airbags, but everytime you move the seat, the side airbag for some reason trigger the SRS). So, I think the airbags not deploying might have saved my car from being totaled.

I'll keep you guys updated....It's in the shop for an estimate.

Thanks again guys, that means alot to me!

Sorry to hear/see your loss. I know what its like to be in an accident of serious nature.

As in regards to the "Frame" damage. More then likely just looking at the pics, you prolly have some apron and core support damage which is technically structure/frame damage. If you can I would highly suggest they total the car out so you can receive full value of what your car is worth. If they fix it, it may never be "right" and the value of your car from being in a accident will drop more than just a little. I would take my advice since I had a similiar accident and I work at a car dealer.

Once again sorry for the accident! :(
