iso lighting similar to gas stations etc

I know there have been numerous threads on lighting used for polishing, but my halogens get too hot imo, and are bulky.

I think that it would be great if I could put a bulb in a trouble light similar to those in parking lots and gas stations. etc.

Those are special lights, often sodium, metal halide, etc. Big, bulky, and expensive. But you can get the high-wattage incadescent trouble lights at Lowe's and use a 300W bulb. In an otherwise dark garage it works for me, even for micromarring on silver, the stuff you truly can't see in "real life".

I have seen that high wattage incandescants are effective, but every cage that I see for them and even the replacement bulbs are rated @ only 100 watts respectively.

I guess I'll have to search local retail, and if no luck, use the internet... did I mention that I love the internet?

Yeah, apparently the high-wattage ones are hard to find. Bill D says his local Lowe's just now started carrying them. I dunno if my local place has stocked any more or not; I bought their last one a while ago.

Powerful flashlights work too, but they don't cover a very big area. Maybe one of those zillion-candlepower spotlights I see in all the catalogs would work :nixweiss It's sorta hard to say since some light sources just don't show marring as well as others, no matter how bright they are.

Yep, I'd try Lowe's locally first. If they have it, it will be in the trouble light and power cord area of the store. Perhaps stock varies by store and it's not out of the question Home Depot and others may have it too. It's a case of hit or miss.
