Is this the way I should use Zaino

I'm going to detail the car this weekend and I just wanted to run the process by some of you just to make sure I've got the process down.

1. Dawn

2. Clay bar

3. Dawn

4. ZFX / Z5

5. Z6

6. ZFX / Z5 (just to finish off the remaining mixture)

7. Z6

8, ZFX / Z5 (just to finish off any remaining mixture)

9. Z6

The reason I'm using Z5 with ZFX is so I can take out some minor swirls, should I hold off on the Z2 until next time I detail or can I use Z2 inbetween coats of ZFX / Z5 ?

9. Z2

11.Z6

Thanks for your help !

It does not make much sense to use Z2 in between coats of Z5. Use the Z5 until you have dealt with the swirls, then use Z2 as the top coat. Always top z5 with z2, because z2 has higher optical properties, which you will waste if you top immediately with z5.

Also, no need to wash with Dawn a second time, after the clay. Dawn is very harsh and you just need to use it once to take off the wax and grease. A wash with Z7 would be better. Since I use a z7/water mixture in a spray bottle to lube the clay, there is a lot of soap on the car after the clay is done anyway.

My white car gets Zaino; I've been using if for nearly a year now, so will offer what advice I can.

This Dawn thing has gotten out of control. You only need to Dawn wash if you have any wax or glaze on the car. If you do, then step 1 is fine. But use Zaino carwash soap for step 3. Dawn is a very harsh alkali, and should not be used except when necessary.

Insert 3.1: Z6. The Zaino website says wash, then Z6, then apply Z5 or Z2.

No, as I understand it, you don't use Z2 between Z5 coats. You apply as much Z5 as you want/need, then start applying Z2 for more depth.

By the way, rumors of Z5's swirl-hiding capabilities are often exaggerated. Check the recent threads of folks who have bought the new and improved Z5, though.

Why are you starting the Z process if you have swirls that still bother you? Removing Zaino is sufficiently a hassle that it would seem simpler to buff out the swirls before starting the Zaino journey. :nixweiss I bought the Klasse twins for my Benz; got the product a month ago, but haven't applied it yet because I needed to (a) get and (b) use a PC.

What color is your car? And have you used Zaino before? If not, have you read all the tips on the Zaino website and in NickT's thread?

Edit: Squidd99, you're fast on the keyboard! :D

I agree. I am a Zainoholic and I would use the Zaino carwash (Z-7) instead of the second Dawn washing. Also, between your steps #3 and 4, I would hit it with one layer of the Z-6 detailing mist. It seems to really prepare the paint for your first layer of Z-5 or Z-2. I also agree that you should do all your Z-5 layers until you are happy and then top off with Z-2.

A pic of my Nissan 350Z is on the Zaino website. It's the one with the sign next to it that says "50th Layer"

How can you guys count how many layers you have??? Do you have some kinda record like this???

e.g:

-Oct 20, 98: 2X Z5, 2X Z2, QD in between

-Sept 23, 99: 1X Z5, 3X Z2, QD in between

-March 7, 00:3X Z5, 2X Z2, QD in between

-May 10, 01: 2X Z5, 2X Z2, QD in between

-Aug 29, 02: 1X Z5, 1X Z2, QD in between

-April 1, 03: 2X Z5, 1X Z2, QD in between

and so on..........?????

Don't have a log to record dates and times, but I do remember each additional layer. The application of a good layer of Zaino is a relaxing almost meditational experience :)

BTW, a TRUE Zainoholic would NEVER count Z-6 as a "layer". If that was the case, I'd have well over 250! :)
