Is this the right PC?

Thanks, from what I can tell you can use a wide variety of pad sizes what's most common or is it personal preference?

I`m putting an order through AutoGeek and am looking for correcrt pad sizes... and or "better" brands?

I was able to get the Porter-Cable 7424 6" from the above amazon link for $45 shipped :woot: I had $75 (3x$25) gift cards from my amazon card, and free shipping :)

Now to verify my pad order:

A couple each:

And

DP Polishing Pad Rejuvenator

Good?

You'll also need a backing plate. The 7424 doesn't come with a hook&loop plate. (The white Porter-Cable pad shown is fixed plate, threaded mount and really lame.)

Thanks, I have

Dual-Action 6.5" Foam Pads: Dual-Action Hook & Loop Flexible Backing Plate 6"

and the 6" counter-weight in my cart too.

So you think the pads are a good choice?

I haven't used those particular pads myself so I can't say from direct experience but they're a good supplier and Lake Country makes excellent products so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I would use a 5" backing plate myself. It gives you more flexibility in choosing pads. Not all 6.5" pads have full diameter loop on the back. You always want the loop to be a little bigger than the plate so the plate doesn't dig into the foam. The 5" plate lets you use everybody's pads.

So for $120 I can get something I paid $45 for + ~$30 for the adapters :LOLOL

oops my bad...I thought you were getting just the PC for $119

*mental note* read whole thread and posters

No problem, looking at the counterweight now I read:

The counterweight is for use with a 6 backing plate only.

if I get the 5' backing plate it wont work?

interesting. I`m sure I can pickup one for the 5" at lowes or someplace right ?

Which brings up the question; "if you're using a 6" polishing pad on a 5" backing plate which weight should you use?"

There are two main answers, the first being; "whichever feels better to you." But a number of Autopians report it as; "it doesn't matter, we can't feel any difference."

Keep in mind the 5" and 6" counterweights were really designed to be used with Porter-Cable's sanding plates and abrasive disks, not polishing pads and other manufacturer's plates, so they're more a suggestion than anything else.

If you get both play with them and decide which you prefer. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
