Is this paint overspray?

My buddy and I were washing his wife's car today when we noticed that nearly the entire car was covered with these very small white/gray spots. The car was in the body shop not too long ago, though he can't recall if these spots were present before that.

I tried claying a portion of the bumper and these spots wouldn't budge. It seems to be more concentrated on horizontal surfaces and glass.

The car is fairly new, only a few months old, I believe.

You might want to try a more aggressive clay, but it may leave some marring and require a mild polish.

I think the car's going back for a respray at the body shop, so he wanted to know if it was likely overspray from that shop so he could ask them about it when he's there.

So you think it's likely paint overspray from the body shop then?

No. Doesn't look like that at all. Looks like someone was painting something like a house, building or a fence near your car. Do you have any paint thinner? If so, try that and see if it takes it off. Get a razor blade (a brand new one) and lightly scrape the windows.

Is this on the entire vehicle or just a specific section? What was the car in the body shop for? Does the part that was painted at this shop have this overspray on it?

It's hard to say from a picture. Your friend will have a hard time convincing the body shop that it occured while the vehicle was there. Good luck and let us know what happened.

It's on the entire car, including the front bumper that was repaired after an accident.

I know it's tough to tell from a couple of poor photographs, but it's pretty much just very small white and gray dots covering the entire car. It's really baffling us, but it seems like something that was a very fine mist settled on the car. His car, which is kept near his wife's, doesn't have this same contamination.

Gotcha. That didn't happen at the body shop then. Maybe at the Wife's job? It's definatly worthy of an insurance claim seeing that it probably won't come off the rubber and textured moldings. These usually get replaced when you're striving for a 100% removal. The paint and glass is the easy part. what kinda vehicle?
