Is there a way to remove scratches from vinyl hood stripes?

Greetings everyone,

A couple of neighbourhood kids decided to draw two stars in the dust on my matte black vinyl hood stripes, and needless to say scratched the hell out of the vinyl itself. I was wondering whether there was any way to remove or hide scratches on vinyl stripes. Short of slashing the kids' bike tires I am out of ideas as to what to do :faint2:

I suppose I should also add that these aren't DEEP scratches, but more like surface scuffs. Nevertheless they are quite noticeable in certain lighting conditions, so now I basically have two crudely drawn stars on my Lemans racing stripes :(

I have detailed police cars and the reflective decals on police cars, and unfortunately have not had any success with coming up with a solution to removing scratches on the striping...so I think you are out of luck.

A guy on another site said that he has used 303 Aerospace Protectant on his matte black vinyl stripes and that it does a good job of masking scratches. I am going to give it a shot since replacing the stripes really isn't an option for me at this point.

Clean off vinyl hood with water. Spray vinyl cleaner on it & let it for 5 to 10 mins. Polish vinyl hood with vinyl conditioner with pad after washing a car. Now, polish with microfiber or any soft cloth & the scratches would be gone.

Heat gun.

Once in a while you'll get lucky and some heat will bring the plasticizers to the surface and scratches will disappear. If they're really bad, you're out of luck.

Don't overheat it obviously.
