I've never been good at capturing pictures of swirl marks, and I'd love some instruction on the best way to do it. I've got a nice DSLR that should do the job, it is mainly Operator Failure.

Any tips/links/etc.??? Thanks!

There are a lot of "tricks"; the general idea is contrast. You want contrast between the surface of the car and it's surroundings; so if you're indoors get it nice and dark aside from the lighting you're using to show the swirls, whether it's a flash, halogen, LED etc. You want to use the lowest ISO possible (without the picture being grainy, of course); the more blown out the picture is the less you see the swirls.

What lighting are you using?
