Is the UDM worth it?

Just curious what everyone's feelings on the UDM were. I love using my PC and I can do pretty stellar work with my rotary but I'm just curious as to if a UDM is a good tool to add to my arsenal. I have the money for one but I'm just curious as to if it's worth it or if I should just invest in some new pads and product rather than a new machine.
 
if you have a pc and a rotary. why do you need the middle step?

rotary tough stuff/ pc finishing right?
 
I haven't really used mine that much yet. My PC has turned into th eusage for the aqua brush only. The UDM was a replacement for my Griot's Garage Unit.
 
The UDM is definitely more aggressive than the PC, maybe a touch under a Cyclo. However, the biggest advantage for me is how well it finishes out even with a cutting pad and compound on most paints. It spins a lot faster under pressure than the PC does so it breaks down polishes better. I think it does better finishing work than the PC as well.



Not sure in your case it is worth it if you can finish down well with a rotary. However, if you want a machine that on paint in moderate to decent condition that will correct faster and finish down better than the PC, then the UDM is worth it. Plus, then you can use a Cyclo carpet brush attachment on your PC and relegate it to carpet duty.
 
ive bought the UDM and have had results below what i expected until esterday. I was using 6.5 pads on the udm and to get any decent results. not even 100 percent swirl free it would take waay to much time to do. So yesterday i decided to try the spot buffing pads on the udm. What a world of difference The smaller pads allow for WAY faster correction I was able to finish my car in a Fraction of the time. And only using menzerna micro polish. I would have had to use super intensive followed by micro polish to get similar results with a 6.5 pad. I high ly suggest the udm but only if your gonna use spot buffing pads to do the car otherwise it takes waaaaaay too long and your probably better off buying a rotary and a scrap hood and practicing on that till you get it right. just make sure since heat is generated faster with spot buffing pad you move it faster than when u have a the 6.5 inch pad. i would say about 1-2 inches a second.
