Is the Porter Cable able to do this?

I have a PC and quite a few pads and some compounds/polishes.

- Yellow LC pads

- White LC pads

- Optimum compound

- Optimum polish

- Meg plastic polish



I want to wet sand my tail lights and head lights with 2000 grit paper. I also have some chips I touched up with OEM Honda touch up paint. I was also going to start out with 1000 grit then work my way to 2000 grit and compound it out. First though I want to know if the PC will be able to get the sanding marks out of the Honda paint and lights finished in 2000 grit.

I forgot to mention, I have some orange LC pads also.



My yellows are in 5.5" and a 6.5"

My orange are in 6.5"

white are 5.5" and 6.5"
 
Try the 5.5" pads, but it will take many, many passes. The 4" pads will cut your work in half. BTW I would start with the orange and if it's not cutting it, move up to the yellow. You will have to finish down with the orange and white pad, as the yellow is very aggressive and will leave marring.
 
hmm... I always use the yellow as it cuts pretty good. Only follow with the white. I will see if I can get better results with the 3 pad process. So try the orange with OC. That should get regular swirls out of soft Honda paint right?
 
I have done this on both the paint and plastic tail lights on a few cars. Never had any problems getting out 2000 grit sand marks with a yellow pad and compound. I recommend taking the headlight/tail light off the car though.

What are you placing them on in order to make sure they stay in place?



When I Polished my headlights on one of my cars I did take off the front bumper and grill (one piece) and it made it easy.
