Is the PC supposed to........

Well, trying the PC I noticed that orbitates more than it spins (makes sense?).

Its own weight is almost enough for the pad to stop spinning, have you guys noticed this?

Do I have a defective one????

Hi Chino,

Your PC is perfectly fine. It is not really supposed to spin. If it just kind of vibrates (a lot) with a little spin when almost no pressure is applied then it is fine. If you really want to test it soak a pad in water and turn the PC to 6. Then turn it on. If you soak everything in like a 10 foot radius then your pc is in perfect working order :)

Well, for the life of me I can't find ANY of the threads that I know exist about what you're mentioning, but your PC is normal. It's just supposed to orbit about its axis and the pad spinning is just a byproduct. If you play with it with the machine off you'll notice it freewheels.

EDIT: It looks like in the time that it took me to post, Bigkev took care of it. :p However, I would suggest NOT running the PC without load since it's not supposed to and the pad will spin at an incredible speed. I vaguely recall some people have mentioned smoking their precious backing plates this way....

thanks for the replies.

I had to ask because I thought it also needed to spin to create a litlle bit more heat needed to break down whatever product you are working with.

That's the big difference between an orbital polisher and a rotary buffer/polisher. The former (like a PC) makes tiny circles, and there's not much actually spinning of the pad. All a rotary does is spin - lots of heat.

orbital: safer, slower.

rotary: faster, able to burn through paint.
