Is my new wash mit done for?

I'm going ahead and going to assume that it is but I figure I would ask anyway.

Today while washing my truck I decided I would would use my new sheepskin wash mit. Well I washed the whole upper part of the truck and got started on the bottom part and I guess I didn't see a spot of TAR from when I looked over the truck and washed the wheels and wheel wells. So when I wiped I smeared tar all over my new mit. I'm going to say it's done for because there is no way I can get this tar out. I'll probably keep it for the wheel wells and other jobs like that but not on the paint.

I have lost a sheepskin washmit from accidentally putting it in the wash with other stuff and nappysand. Fell appart in the washing machine and left fluff over absolutely everything. I'm still getting it off clothes and out of the washing machine a few months later.

so anyway, yeah I think its done for a strong cleaner might and I say might get it out but I wouldn't want to risk it on paint work considering the damage it could do when a new mit is cheaper then a repaint or hours spent repairing the damage

hmmm...dont look at it as if you are losing a new sheepskin wash mit, but gaining a new wheel wells mit :p

It wasn't a big patch of tar, I didn't even see it till I wiped the door and spread it around. This is the 2nd or 3rd mit I've lost and you would think I would learn but I really thought I looked the truck over well enough before I got started. Only one side is ruined but I'm more mad at myself for not paying enough attention. Oh well I guess this gives me an excuse to place an order for some mitts and some other stuff I "need"

Oh well I'm sure my wheels will appreciate the new mitt

degrease, clean and your fine.

Have a specific product in mind? I pretty much threw the mitt in the wheel pile but if I can get this tar off I would love to do it

I don't have a specific brandname in mind, but you might give one of the citrus-based all-purpose cleaners a try. I've seen them in both the kitchen cleaners section of the grocery store, and in auto parts stores. The citrus solvent used in those cleaners (d-limonene, I think?) does a decent job on tar and grease, and seems to be relatively gentle.

Unfortunately, while I've used it to clean my buffing pads and for various things around the house, I've never tried it on something like a wool mit, so take the suggestion with an appropriately-sized grain of salt.

Good luck,

The price you pay for the degreaser/tar off will probably be enough to buy you a new mitt. :) Unless you need the tar off for your truck.....

Well it won't hurt to try. I'll take a look and see what I can do. If it doesn't work then it really won't make much difference

Thanks for the help
