glad you read it!

I just wanted to make sure you read fdizzle post because I respect his opinion

that's all..... I have not used it as I have a makita

I am curious what is your reason for persisting in wanting rotary when as an absolute beginner without any experience (if I understand correctly) you would be best off getting PC's dual action random orbital (7424/733SP) to start?

Oh, OK, that would be logical then.

If your dad has 15+ years

why don't you ask him?

he only has experience with a dewalt and a B&D thats all he uses.... on the other hand, it seems like you dont want to help me, but criticize me why is that?

also do you think he has used every machine that was made to buff a car, thats unlogical......be reasonable man...... i come here for help not to be criticized...... if you dont have any information dont post......

Well anyone out there got first hand experience with the porter cable 7428?

You don't see many people using the Porter Cable rotary, usually as far as rotary goes the members here tend to use the Makita and the Dewalt.

I don't know why you feel criticized, I'm not following all of your threads, but let me try to help you.

First, your objective seems to be to find tool that is not junk and has lowest price. I don't have 7428 nor I have ever used rotary but its specs indicate it would satisfy your goal. It is good brand, it should last you as you are not running a shop, price can not get much lower than that, and it might have basics that you would need (7" variable speed). Speed might be slight issue as 1000 rpm is lowest it goes. Search and ask around on rpm ranges needed.

On the friendly note, previous poster might not have meant anything bad when he asked why you are not asking your dad. Of course your dad did not work with every single thing out there, but if he is familiar with basic requirements on rotary he should be able to quickly check is tool satisfying them for you.

Price has nothing to do with it. It could be that they are not using it because they are used to using DeWalt and Makita. Verify RPM range like I suggested.

Something just doesn't seem right if this rotary PC costs less than the orbital PC.

Haha just kidding. I was also considering to get the 7428 model on eBay. $105 shipped. I assume this is where you found it also. It seems to me that you are trying something different from what your dad does even though he has 15+ years of experience. While I can respect that, if you aren't getting the help you're looking for, why not take the risk and try the machine out yourself? It's either taking the road less travelled or what everyone else is taking, just that the former has more risks.

After reading a bit more, I found out that the owner of Autopia, DavidB, had a few good things to say about the 7428, as he does own one.
