Is it worth getting foam pads AND Meg's Microfiber DA system?

I'm ordering a GG tomorrow and don't know if I should just get the foam pad bundle and HD uno, or no foam bundle and Meg's DA correction system.

Is there really any reason I should buy both? I've heard great things about both so I'm just not sure what to do and don't want to buy both and never use one of them.

Any help is appreciated, just looking for opinions of what others think.

another question that just came to mind, does the Meg's MF DA correction system have a bunch of fillers like the Ultimate line? Or is it filler free?

Just my personal opinion, but if you work on more than your own car, Id say get both kinds of pads. Ive found that the mf pads can do some pretty good correction well beyond what I could get with foams. However, the mf pads dont alway finish out as nicely as I would like, so I tend to go back to the foams. If your immediate budget is at issue, Id go with the G6/ foam package, and then when you need to upgrade, get some of the mf pads.

Ive only tried the compound/ wax in frequently, so ymmv. But in my experience, the compound did leave behid some oils that can hide whatever you dont correct, not to mention being a pain in the tuckus to remove (one of the reasons I liked using part A of the autoint system on re-washes after polish, as it did a pretty good job of pulling that stuff off). When it comes to the wax (the d301), I never bothered to check if it has fillers, so no help there.

Unless someone can give me a good reason to go with MF over foam I'll probably just go ahead and get the foam package and order some HD Uno. I know Uno doesn't have any fillers so I feel better being able to use that to be honest. Not sure if I'll get the results I'm looking for as quick as I would with the MF system, but no fillers is what I was mainly concerned with.

Having done my first polishing using the GG with 5.5" foam (B&S which I believe are the same as Uber and HD pads) and HD Speed make sure you get at least 4 of each of the cutting pads as they get hot on speed 6. I used 4 orange pads in two sets of 2 -- alternating pads every couple of sections. My only regret is that I didn't have 4 yellow pads for my hard VW paint. Have read a few comments here that the HD/Uber/B&S yellows finish very well. Don't forget HD has free shipping right now on the new products--the prices are so reasonable I think you could almost get UNO, Polish and Speed for what you'd pay for 105/205.

Micro fibre like wool doesn’t ‘finish’ that well, whereas a foam will finish LSP ready and a ‘soft’ foam can’t be bettered for paint burnishing (jewelling)

The only reason imho to go with mf pads over the foam is the correction ability plus lower heat production when working the paint surface.

I waited over a year to jump on the MF bandwagon, and I'm glad I did. D300 dusts less than 105 (HUGE plus for me), and you can spin the DA at a slower speed to get "better" correcting ability. I still prefer to finish with a foam pad, so I would say get both and try them, that's the only way to really know for yourself. BUT, there's nothing wrong with going all foam, everybody here went all foam before MF came out and it worked fine (except wool).

PWaug, is there a coupon code to get free shipping?

I was going to get uno and poxy, but 3D's shipping is so expensive, like 15 bucks just for 2 32 oz. bottles. and that's for ups ground. Quite crazy for a time when most sites offer free shipping. :/

Depending on whether you are doing your own car only or doing this as a profession will determine if you should get both types of pads or not. I use both and LOVE the MF pads. As mentioned here, they are not the best for finish work but for light compound/cutting work they are great and for light to medium swirl removal they are great. Finish them off with a black pad and a finish polish and you have an awesome finish! I highly recommend getting both types of pads if you are going to be doing detailing for a living or even on the side. They are easy to use and IMO do not build up as quickly as foam will. Hit them with a MF brush and keep going. I recommend 3 cutting pads and 3 polishing at least.

If I'm not happy with the speed of the foam pads mf pads will be in the future.

Will the MF pads still be OK to use with other compounds, or is Meg's system a must?

They work fine with stuff from other manufacturers. I've been especially happy with Uno on the MF cutting disks.

IF I had known that when I ordered from Detailer's domain I would have just picked up a couple pads. just didn't want to spring on the whole system as I watched the video on AutoGeek and they (doing their job of course) tried to make it very clear that it would all only work with the Meg's Pads, compound/polish and even backing plate lol

In my detailing, most are daily drivers, I do 1 step, MF cutting pads with whatever compound/polish works. I experiment a bit. I know you CAN finish with a little more gloss if you add another foam pad step, but my customers wouldn't be able to see the differece. And they sure won't pay me for the extra work. They care more about getting that coffee stain out of carpet.

Know your customer, dont break your back!

BTW. I have a bad back, 4 ruptured disc, and today I just did something to injure it all over again.

Ouch. Yeah, I need to work more on making the customer happy and giving them what they pay for (not lower quality necessarily.) I can't keep striving for show car perfection on daily drivers and work trucks that I charge 80 bucks for.
