Is it normal for the clay bar to tear?

Hi,

My car has never been clayed (Black 1998). I decided to buy some clay here at Autopia and went for the new Sonus Clay and lubricate. About 3/4 of the way, the clay was like it was tearing off and wouldn't all stick together. The clay was very dirty and after 1 pass, I notice I still had that grainy feeling....

Is it because my car was so dirty? (that the clay began to tear down?)

Thanks

Clay tears when it;s thinned out too much or dried . Just do a few passes and keep baling it back up and flattening it back out to keep a clean side working .

DO the cleaner parts of your car 1st .

Maybe even cut the bar in half and use 1/2 at a time

along the same lines.... I had a pice of clay start to crumble on me. I tried molding it, but it got to a point where it just would not stay together. What causes that?

I`ve had OLD claybars do this... I think it's because they loose their moisture. (Depending how you 'seal' them I gues it depends on the time frame.)
