is high pressured water bad?

i don't have a space to wash my car, so i go to this local self-car wash place to wash my car.

i am there to use their water. i bring my own bucket and soap, mitts and mf towels and stuff. i rince the car with the high pressure hose before and after the soap.

tho, i've noticed this high pressured water is really high pressured.

i was worrying if this water can harm the paint, or take out the wax or something.

well, can it?

thx.

Yes, it can, something about embedding dirt into the paint, I've read. What I do, is use the low pressure and spray at a 45 degree angle, this should help.

Funny thing-- I'm in the same situation where I don't have a place at home to wash, so I go next door to the self service wash place to give my vehicle a spray down once a week to keep it clean; just high pressure rinse, followed by low pressure spotless rinse. I don't put the spraygun too close to the paint, unless it's the front bumper or lower quarter panels where dirt tends to stick easily. Afterwards, the paint is clean as if I did a normal bucket+soap wash and in direct sunlight I still don't have swirls (I did a complete detail this summer). I follow up on this with some Chemical Guy's Pro Detailer and it's good to go.

When you say it's high pressure, is it to the point where you can't control it, or does it give you cramps in your hand after spraying for a while? If it's the latter, then I think you're fine, but you should still use caution and avoid spraying near open paint chips.

This might seem like a hassle but it could be worthwhile:

Do more frequent QEW washes. You can mix your QEW wash in a bucket with a lid from your indoor faucet and do the same with another for rinse water. Perhaps bringing this set up to a uncrowded parking lot or park setting will suffice for the location if you are uneasy about doing it at the coin op and not using their water. Wash and dry in sections.

If that doesn't sit right, I'd try to use that wand from an angle and distance as far away from the paint as possible. Going closer to do the undercarriage and wheel wells should be alright.

the pressure is not to the point where it pushes my body around.

i just get cramps, and i can't touch that water with my hands. (i tried to wash my hand with that high pressure water and almost cried...)

thanks for your feedback guys.

i use the same thing around here, its not because i cant wash it in the driveway, but im just too sick of bringing out the hoses and then when the sun dries the car in the driveway i get waterspots all over the car so i do it in one of thoes garaged 1.00 places and dry it off in there. and it gets all thoes bugs off the front that i would rather not scrub with a mitt.

:angry i have knicked the front bumper once when i was holding it too close and when the water stopped the metal tip fell on the ****ing brand new paint :angry :wall went through all the clear probably will have to wetsand it
