Is Glass as Vulnerable as Paint?

What do you guys think? Should I use the same care on my glass and windows as I use on my paint? Does glass scratch as easily as paint?

I am wondering if I should use my good MF's for in-between cleaning of the windows when it rains and I need to get rid of the dirty waterspots.

Glass certainly doesn't scratch as easily as paint. However, glass should also be washed, maintained, and cleaned to provide the best visibility. In order to prevent linting, good quality MF's and good glass cleaners (Stoners Invisible Glass is what I use) are essential to maintaining glass.

When you say in-between cleaning, what do you mean? Usually, if the glass is dirty, I still wait till it's time to wash the entire car (~every 2 weeks) to clean it because if I clean the glass with soap and water, it's going to dribble down onto the paint, in which case I would have to rinse the entire car. However, then I can't dry the car because it's still dirty. And so on...

I just use a damp MF and wipe over the waterspots. I don't use soap, just a little water and go over areas that are dirty, then let it dry by itself. I find that the water is adequate enough to clean the dirt that is there...is doing this OK?

Glass is susceptible to marring, scratching, hazing, and streaking just like paint. Though it doesn't scratch as easily.

You asked "Should I use the same care on my glass and windows as I use on my paint?"

Are you serious? Do you know where you are? LOL....I'm just kidding. That just seemed like an odd question.

Anyway, you probably don't need to use your "good" MF towels if you have some decent ones that are clean. I keep a bin full of those junky, 10 for $8.99, Microfiber towels and they work fine on stuff like windows. I save my good ones for the paint.

You window should be cleaned whenver you wash your car. Nothing pisses me off more than someone who spends a significant amount of time cleaning their car then skimps when it comes to the windows. It's a chore, and its easy to overlook, but to me it makes a huge difference.

I also use Stoners Invisible Glass. I also use Rain-X. People say it streaks but if you use a PowerBall to buff it off you will get great results. Also, I've heard of people waxing their windshields, but in my experience wax does not buff easily off of glass. Mothers also promotes thier chrome cleaner as an excellent glass cleaner. I dont know if other brands do the same.

If you are going to clay the car, make sure you clay the windows too.

Yes, that should be fine. However, depending on how dirty it is, I would probably switch the MF to a clean side every few swipes to 1)Use the MF to its full potential 2)Prevent any possible marring.

Cheap MFs leave too much lint on glass for me. I usually clean once with a plush (100%) cotton towel and then give it a quick follow-up with the Cobra WWs for glass. And yeah, I use glass cleaner, not plain water.

One note about glass. It can be etched with the acid that is found in some wheel cleaners. I have seen where the glass is distorted by an acid and the paint is not.
