Hi all as the holidays approach, I have been asked by santa what I want.

So I have been thinking about an MP3 player, these are the 2 most popular.
Both seem fairly matched.
I have been leaning towards the Zune, but was curious to hear from others here.

I am also open to other suggestions as well.

thanks

If you go with the ipod touch, you can surf the net on WiFi. Can you do that with the Zune? I've heard there were some issues with the Zune, but never looked into them, so it may be just "fanboy" banter.
I've used the first gen. touch. It seems nice. However, I hear the newer ones are better. (more apps and such.) Cheaper too.

But, if you were looking at the $50 range ipod, I'd probably go with an MP3/4 player with a view screen so you can choose what song you want as well as load movies etc. into it. You can't do that on the $50 ipod, but I have seen MP4 players for under $50 that do.

Not worried about surfing the net. More for music & movies.

So storage and playback is more of what I am looking at

I voted for IPOD, just because there is soooooo much more avaliable to enhance it. Most car co's add an ipod adapter, there are home adapter units etc.

Jay, I don't use one but all three of my kids have one. We started out with IPOD's because they were what's hot when we first looked into them. My son is really hard on anything electronic, they've held up pretty well. He's upgraded to a 120 Gig IPOD. His original 60 works fine but doesn't plug into his home speaker system without a little fidgeting (I'm sure the jack could be fixed). He's got it hard wired and just leaves it in one place.

I must be too old because I didn't see much use for them until we put an Alpine deck in my son's truck. It has a plug in for the IPOD that allows you to use the deck to control the IPOD in a fashion similar to it's normal set of IPOD controls. It's pretty slick to have all that music on hand.

In all cases, 4 of them now we went to Apple's site and purchased refurbished units, they were all current generation products. I could not find them any cheaper and I looked everywhere. They carry a full warranty and none have been any problem for my kids. Might be worth a look. They have a link to refurbished units on the products page and the available inventory changes radically overnight. If you don't see what you want (color or capacity) it may be there the next day.

I don't particularly like their music service though I believe other services have similar type hooks to keep you coming back. I don't remember the specifics but he has to jump through a few hoops to get the music he's downloaded to a place where he can burn it to a disc. He has to run it through a couple of different programs to get it into regular MP3 or Audio WAV file. This may not be much of a problem for people a little more "with it" than we are. I still like to have a burned copy of an album and I think that has rubbed off on to him. The girls don't care so much. I'm sure that the Zune has some type of equivalent feature but when you buy a DVD and it has a second digital copy disc that comes with it, it's nice to put a movie on the IPOD to watch when traveling. His basketball team spends much time on the road and he uses this feature quite a bit. He put The Dark Night on just the other day. He says several players will gather round and watch the tiny screen while traveling.

make mine 13. I've owned 3 ipods and loved every one of them. My vote is for ipod it seems easier to work with than the zune.

I don't personally have experience with either but my boss has like 10 mp3 players and says that the creative line is the most user friendly for use with a pc. He is very smart electronically so I will take his advice when I go to purchase an mp3 player.

i have been using a sandisk that i have had for like 2 years now and the sound is incredible from such a small device!! lol
bought the plug for the lighter in my truck and sends sound through the speakers, sounds good like that too.. which ever you go with, i would say upgrade the headphones too..

I really don't use them, but with 2 of them here, i been using one for some music listening on my own.
