Iphone or Windows Mobile

I am coming up on the end of my TMobile 2 year contact for my Tmobile Dash with Windows Mobile. I am thinking of switching over to AT&T and going with either the Fuze or Iphone.

I know that the Iphone is coming out with a OS upgrade in June which will make it much better.

I just wanted to hear from forum members that had Iphones to see if they were happy with it.

iPhone user here since the beginning of the product and been very happy with it. Wife recently got one too - went in looking at blackberry. Was totally unimpressed with windows mobile. I'd go with the iPhone but I'm biased.

I am waiting for my contract to be up so I can get an iPhone. I have been using WM forever now, but I like all the apps the iPhone has. A bonus is that a WM app will sell for say $40 a similar app for the iPhone will sell for less than $5.

Pat, I just got my iphone and the amount of free apps in itunes is amazing. They even have an app that I use to accept credit cards from customers ($49.99, expensive, and it includes an authorize.net merchant account). I love my iphone...I got a refurb unit off the att website for $99.00 and it included a the iphone + a free p hone for the wife :)

no iphone for the wifey (to complex)!

I initially didn't like iPhones...my wife was always messing around on hers. Then after a year, I picked one up as well. I love it...my name is Zane, and I am an iPhone hypocrite :lol

They really are great. Very versatile and easy to use.

Just some random thoughts...

The internet browser was the best I've used on a mobile device. This was on an iPod Touch, but its the same browser that's on the iPhone. The HTC is going to be a bit fatter than the iPhone due to the physical keyboard. I have not used WM 6 with Touch Flo but it looks nice.

The iPhone screen is larger (3.5") but the resolution is lower than the smaller-screen-HTC. 480x640 @ 2.8" vs 480-by-320 @ 3.5"

If you plan to listen to your tunes: The HTC doesn't have the standard 3.5mm jack. You'll need an adapter. :down

If your are into physical keyboards, Windows Mobile, and multitasking, the Fuze might be a good choice. Internet browsing via Opera is decent as well, but probably not quite as good as the iPhone. The HTC device will allow you to expand the memory with MicroSD cards, unlike the iPhone.

One thing I don't like about Apple/iPhone is everything is so controlled. Any programs, games, music, etc, that you want to install must go through Apple software. There are ways around this but it can be a pain...but you do get access to thousands of fun yet many times useless applications. :)

If you liked the form factor of your Tmobile Dash a Blackberry might be of interest as well.

i had a blackberry for years threw att. now i got the iphone 16gb. seriously i love it over the blackberry. seriously i can't live without it now. im hooked like pigs in ****. all my email gets fowarded to it. i would be lost with out it.good luck pat

i had cingular/at&t and switched to t-mobile, and would never go back to at&t. at&t had the worst service i've ever experienced and i would get dropped calls very often...

my contract ended with t-mobile last month (signed a 1 year contract) and i'm thinking about re-signing (getting a new phone as well). i would choose verizon if i had to switch, but they charge alot though their coverage is good (t-mobile is not far behind in all aspects). i currently pay $49.99 for 1500 minutes with unlimited night & weekends and if i resign i get to keep this plan...

According to several of my friends who aren't apple fanboys that DO like the iPhone. The iPhone is an AMAZINGLY functional PDA coupled with a so-so phone. That tends to be the general consensus. That being said in full-disclosure, I have an HTC Touch which is a great phone, but if you don't load hacked ROMs batterylife/stability is not that great.

On the flip-side, Windows Mobile phones are EXTREMELY customizable, see Touchflo2d, Touchflo3d, various home screen plugins etc.

It is all about what you want. There is no one-size fits all.

I have seen the Blackberry mentioned a couple of times in this thread and just so those not familiar with them know, the Blackberry does NOT run any flavor of Windows Mobile. It is a a Java based OS by RIM, NOT Microsoft :)

I'm a gadget guy, a computer geek and wear a few other hats too.

i got an Iphone 3G about 5 months ago and find it the best I've ever used and I've had quite a few.

Here in Canada, any 3G Iphone will be able to install the new OS free of charge and I expect the USA conditions will be similar.

I'd get the phone now, get all the apps you want, get confortable with it, then d/l the new OS when it comes out.

Why not wait and get the Palm Pre?

I have an HTC Touch Pro and it's great but I have my eye on the Palm Pre....think it comes out this month or next....but the HTC is a great phone, so much nicer than my MotoQ (which was a great phone also).

The keyboard on my HTC just feels much nicer than any of the Blackberrys and the fact that you have an actual physical keyboard (plus a touch screen board) makes it a huge plus. The keyboard is much nicer than the Iphone.

I have had no issue with Windows Mobile, especially Windows 6....I can do Excel sheets for records, it sync's up just fine with my desktop and laptop and lots of free apps out there....the only drawback I see for the HTC is nice cases and accessories, I am guessing because it's not a popular phone and also because it has a sliding keyboard.

I was just about to say, I have a MotoQ. I like the iPhones but I hate the keyboards. I need a full keyboard, but always prefer a physical keyboard to touchscreen.

The HTC Touch Pro is BADASS, but definitely pricier than the iphone from most places - something to look at though. I want to say that the Touch Pro has a 640x480 resolution also, which is about as get as it gets on phones right now.

Ive got WinMo 6.1 and I like it. Lots of free apps out there. My brother has a Storm and Ive used it a couple times and I like it, just wish there was a keyboard. Never used an Iphone, but they do look nice and perform decent.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm a Windoze apologist from way back and have used easily eight-nine WM phones over the past six years. Since trying the iPhone, I haven't looked back. It's an amazing device that, IMO, is burdened with a remarkably oversubscribed AT&T network that highlights its inherent weaknesses. Support in the corporate environment absolutely stinks, which is ironic since Apple touted it as a great business tool. (In general, it is - this thing syncs with M$ Exchange better than any Windoze phone I've used and/or supported.)

So, IMO/IME, the device itself is awesome. Better support and a stronger network would make it absolutely stellar. For those who are into tinkering, 'jailbreaking' the device will give you just about all the customization possibilities you'd get with WM phones. And hopefully v3.0 of the software will have all the functionality of the beta that was leaked out last month.
