I mixed IPA and ONR together for wax/sealant prep for a test I was doing. In theory...
IPA cuts through the oils and can be used for wax/sealant/OptiCoat prep.
ONR is body shop safe and can be used before waxes/sealants/OptiCoat.
I wanted to add lubricity to IPA as well as minor cleaning power. I had washed one of our vehicles earlier in the day and let it sit in the garage for a few hours before applying a sealant. Because I had waited I wanted to prep the paint with IPA, but thought I should use some ONR to make sure any debris on the surface would be lifted and removed without inducing damage.
I completely stripped the previous wax and then decided to wipe it down with an IPA ONR mixture. However, the hood was still wet from being rinsed and when I sprayed the mixture on the wet hood, the water instantly beaded up and sheeted off. I decided to hit the whole hood with the mixture and dry it off. After the paint was dry I hit it with water and took a short video [sorry about the watermark, I wanted it converted quickly]. Keep in mind, when I had stripped the wax moments earlier, I could not get any of the water to sheet off for the life of me.
The mixture was half IPA [50/50 mix of 70% IPA and DI water], and half ONR at detail strength. So in the 16 oz bottle there was .5oz of ONR V3, 3oz of straight IPA, 12.5oz DI water. Oddly enough, after wiping down the hood [bare, no wax whatsoever], it was slick and glossy and water completely sheeted off. Much better than a dying wax would. I don't know if the paint was adequately prepped or if the mixture left something behind but it did take me by surprise how it added something to the paint when I combined two products that don't leave something behind.
