Internet Broswer

My employer just installed Mozilla Firefox on our computers. It seems way faster than internet explorer (which we were previously using.)

Is there really a difference in speeds relative to the different options out there?

I'm thinking of using Mozilla on my home computer. Or should I use Google Chrome? Is there a benefit to one versus the other?

Also - if I add one of those on my home PC - do I delete internet explorer off my computer??

Thanks!

Dan

IE has always been one of the slowest browsers. I use firefox as I use alot of the plugins for it.

Here is recent test results from lifhacker.com:

Here's how that would shake out, if the competition included cold starts, nine-tab loading, java script, DOM/CSS, and memory use.

Opera: 76%

Chrome 10 (Stable): 76%

Chrome 11 (Dev): 68%

Firefox 4: 60%

Internet Explorer 9 (64-bit): 24%

Internet Explorer 9 (32-bit): 28%

It's usually add-ons like toolbars and such that slow a browser down. I run with zero add-ons and my IE is pretty fast.

I've been using Opera for several years now. Very fast browser.

Ya, might have to give it a try again. Used it many years ago and was not impressed with it then.

Opera's best feature is the native bookmarks sync, its nice to have all the same bookmarks everywhere, even on the phone. The other nice thing is that since its market share is pretty slim, the number of people trying to use exploits against it are very small. There are some big compatibility issues with some sites though.

Here is a definite area where IE could improve.

Mozilla Firefox is the best internet browser, I like it because it has many new and awesome features also support the Add-on and Robo form software.

Firefox is still slow for me. I use Chrome and love it. It's fast and lightweight.

It also has many extensions available (including AdBlock, FlashBlock, tons of others written for FireFox).

I've tried Opera in the past, but never could get used to it. As a web developer, I typically don't even test in Opera due to the minuscule user base.

I have IE, FireFox and Chrome on all my pc's - I like having a choice and at work they hardcode a lot stuff to IE, so I'm kinda stuck there.

I usually use FireFox though whenever possible.

I would say go with firefox because of user friendliness. Practice tabbed browsing if you haven't been doing that already, you'll never go back. Just try to uninstall any unnecessary tool bars or adware you had in IE but you don't have to delete it off your computer. Running spybot search and destroy if you have spyware or funky things going on is a good idea.

Also a Firefox fan although Chrome is faster. The negative side of Chrome, for me personally, is that the Yahoo toolbar (which I depend on) is not available. Should that ever change Chrome will have a new user. IE9, even though it's the newest version, is slow and not very stable for me. That "Internet Explorer has shut down" crap did it for me some time ago. I go there only to check for Windows updates.

Gotta go with Chrome. If you're on an Apple, I think Safari works just fine... however, Chrome seems even simpler with less unnecessary add-ons and weight. To each their own!
