Interior Vinyl & Plastic

Hello everyone, I'm new to detailing cars but have always taken decent care of them with regular washing & vacumming. I finally have my first new car and I'd like to keep it in as best shape as possible.

With previous cars I would always use a very diluted mix of Simple Green and water to clean the interior plastic and vinyl pieces, following with just water and then drying. It seemed to work well and didn't leave that greasy glare-producing film that Armor-All does. Only problem is that it probably didn't offer any UV protection.

I'm looking for something that will clean the surfaces AND protect it from the sun without leaving a greasy film and without producing the dangerous glare that Armor-All does. If it's something I could pick up at a local store that'd be even better.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Bill, Welcome and Congrats on your new car !

I've been getting away with just water and MF towels on my dash and interior for cleaning (at least once a week). The 303 works great. I don't like the shine/greasy feel from Armour all. 303 leaves a satin finish. I use it on my interior and exterior rubber trim. Some use it on tires, but I haven't tried that yet.

I'm not sure if they still have it, but that link the bretfraz mentioned use to have a free sample in there somewhere.

Good Luck with your new car :xyxthumbs

Interior rubber and vinyl, I love Meguiars #40. You can get it at NAPA.

For plastic, I love 303. Not sure if you can get it locally. I can, but it's a store only in a certain area of the country - Strauss Automotive.

Careful with the Simple Green around plastic. When dilluted to a light mixture, it makes for a nice cleaner for the interior.

I too use water on a rag. That's my first step. A wet rag to wipe down everything before any treatments.

I like Meg's #40 vinyl & rubber cleaner/conditioner.

It cleans as well as provides uv protection and

can be applied from matte to shiny to your

taste. I found it available at a local auto

parts store.
