Interior prices

There is a thread floating around now on what to charge for a full interior detail. Seems that $100 is the going rate and it got me thinking.

I have a package thats $100. It is a wash/wax/interior. Now most of these interiors are shot and we end up shampooing, stain removing, etc..... and its *alot* of work.

When you guys offer a wash/wax/vac package, do you just leave the stains where they are? I have a tough time doing that. Does your customer know you will not be removing any stains with a wash/wax/vac package, if so, how do you politely tell them?

I guess what Im asking here is $100 cutting myself short if I get a car with some serious staining?

I know I can charge more for stains, but alot of these customers want a price over the phone, they dont want me to come out there and the price rises.....

Any help or suggestions would be awesome.

Sorry if I worded it all wrong, I hope you all understand what I am asking...

I charge $65 for a full interior. (again it's just the price my area supports) We do wash wax and vacs for $20-$35 and we will not do any shampooing or stain removals for that price. If they want the stains or odors removed they need to step up to the full monty. (I can price out individual services but it's usually cheaper just to get the package done) I hate seeing stuff leave the shop that I know could look better but you have to give the customer what they pay for. If they know there's an upgrade they'll do it if they really want to. You just have to make them really want to.

I completely agree with Jakerooni. My interior price is $100 also, but I too have a hard time telling the person "additional charges will be applied for excessive dirt and grime". You're basically telling the client you are going to charge more because they are a slob.

It's sort of liked charging more for deep scratches and swirls. I do a two-step polish and wax for my full detail price and get 80-90% removal, but some cars require more than that. I have no problem charging more for exterior work, but for some reason the interior is different.

And a wash/wax/vac job is just that. Wash. Wax. Vacuum.

Sometimes if I feel the client could really use a full interior detail, I will shampoo just the driver's side floor mat and the difference will up-sell itself. Otherwise, they just appreciate having a clean floor mat.

I have also come to realize that most people that are looking to "just clean the interior" want it done because it is a) disgusting and b) the first time it's been cleaned in 5 years.

I charge $114.95 for cars. $124.95 for vans, trucks and suvs. We hand wash and dry, vac, clean and dress (detail) the interior, windows, hot water extract seats, carpets, floor mats and trunk mat. We also remove the spare tire and jack from the spare tire well and detail that area as well. If the car is just wreaked there could be an extra charge. We warn people on the phone that there could be an extra charge for an excessive amount of stains or pet hair.

To answer your question. Yes. Your setting your prices based on a certain time frame. If its going to take more time then whats wrong with charging for it?

Just let them know what your price is and tell them what could cause it to be higher. On my website I have it listed as "Starting at" and at the bottom of my price list it states that prices are based on condition.

For Interior only I charge 100.00 for cars 125.00 for SUVs and then tack on 25.00 for pet hair or gnarly interiors. Charging 100.00 for wax wash and interior is way too little imho .

Maybe its just my area that im in or my high overhead but it would be tough getting by charge that little.

Interesting, thanks for the replies everyone! So what would you guys charge for a wash/wax/complete interior??

I charge $100 for that but maybe that will change now....

Maybe $100 for a wash/wax/interior wipedown and dress (no stain removal) sounds about right....

But what about wash/wax/complete interior? This is the most requested package anyways.

Thanks again guys!

My established competition is doing $150 for exterior only, and $210 for Interior/Exterior, and $30 for just engine bay.

I'm new, so I'm Interior for $100 including spot removal, and $100 for complete exterior w/machine polish. I'd be doing the complete interior and wash/wax for around $125, but just until I start getting regular recommendations, then I'll start creeping up a little. But pricing is something I've been a little troubled over lately, as I'm still slow. I figured I can't punish the customer because I can't get my act together quickly enough.:wall

My normal charge for wash/clay/wax is $40 for cars. If they get it with the interior package I add it on for $30. So it ends up being $144.95. We have a package thats just basic cleaning to mantain a car. Thats $49.95 for vac, wipe down panels, windows inside and out and a hand wash/dry.

wash clay and wax for forty bucks? there are many people who charge 70-100 just to wash and clay.

im also wondering about pricing... im still very unknown so im starting myself low... i just dont know when to bump it ya know

My prices are based by package and vehicle type.

For instance...a "showtime" detail, which is a full package, (full interior: air purge, vac, extract, clean n dress, windows, clean/condit. leather, spot removal) and (full exterior: ONR wash, clay, 2-3 step polish/seal/wax, depending on what it needs, compund extra $, clean/dress/seal wheels, dress wells, plastics, windows, and engine degrease/dress, by request only)

4-door cars: $150.00 and up

small SUV'S: $160.00 and up

large SUV's: $185.00 and up

etc....

Again it all depends on condition and size of vehicle. All my prices are starting prices and I make it well know before i start a job.

I also have Interior package only:

4-door cars: $75.00

small SUV's: $100.00

large SUV's: $125.00

etc...

Usually I try to sell the showtime package, if they are looking at the interior only. Most people look and concentrate on the interior when a detail is done, so I really take my time and produce the "wow" factor for them.

This thread is great, like my other thread says I have been wondering about the pricing as well. This really helps me out...

I found out that another local detailer (like myself, not professional, just wash/wax/vaccum) charges $75.

Just to add another veggie to the soup, here's a more detailed look at my pricing (all starting prices for cars):

Wash/vac/dress dash: $25

Wash/wax/vac/dress interior: $70

Full interior: $100

Full exterior: $100

"Touch up" detail (wash/wax/full interior): $130

"Full detail" (wash/clay/polish/wax/dress/full interior): $190

My $25 wash/vac only takes about 20 minutes so a lot of times I throw that in if I can up-sell someone to a full interior, otherwise it's not included. I didn't used to include a full interior with my "Touch up" detail but so many people would try to be cheap by getting that instead of a recommended full detail then complain and leave upset because the interior wasn't up to what they expected for $130. I hate price-shoppers, but I've found it's better for word-of-mouth recommendations when they leave happy so you have to compromise somewhere.

Man what a perfect time for me to have asked this question! Today I stopped by my "regular" job because I had to pass right by it coming back from a maintenance detail. A coworker asks, "Can you do my interior and when?" I told her I can do it right now! She gave me the keys and asked how much, I told her its usually $100 but since your a coworker you get 30% off, (my usual deal for coworkers). Anyways, if she asked me how much for an interior detail 2 days ago, I would be like "uh, uh, I dont know, uh, 50 bucks?"

So this thread came at a perfect time!

Thanks for all your responses everyone!

Jim

My pricing is close to all that has been posted... starting $80 for most full interior - cars. $100 for suv and up. 2stage leather treatment $60. just carpet $60 and up. I never give prices without looking at the car! many people get bent, but i tell them why and most understand (most).

I offer 3 packages:

Basic $99.95 -wash, wax, trim, vacuum, glass, tires (Van's/SUV's +$29.95)

Better $159.95 Basic plus shampoo interior (includes any stains), trunk and engine (Van's/SUV +$39.95)

Premium $199.95 Better plus clay paint, rain-x, scotch guard, minor paint repair (wet sand scratches, compound, polish) (Vans/suv +$49.95)

I haven't had any problems with pricing and if anyone chooses basic, I always check the carpet and if in bad shape, I explain that the price didn't include shampoo and leave it up to them.

This is job #4 for me, only part-time, and only do because I love to see the before and after. I'm a lot more critical on myself and most time get more exited over the finished product than the customer.

At 54, I also found out real quick that this is a young man's job and I need a day between cars to recover!!
