Hey guys I'm new here. I havebeen lurking around here the last few months and finally decided to join yesterday. I work at an auto auction here in Wisconsin where we detail cars. However we don't get the time we should to do a real nice job on cars. Many just get a interior plastic, glass, vacuum/shampooed then rims and engine as well as a wash. Most of the time with two guys we can get a car done in less then 45 minutes. I've been enjoying things lately though because we have less cars coming through so I can spend more time on cars and do a better job then what management usually allows.



Sorry about the rambling, now to my question. We don't actually remove the seats we just use compressed air under them. By not shampooing that area do you think that leaves alot to be desired?



Do you guys usually remove the seats when detailing or do you use the compressed air method?

I haven't/wouldn't. I've seen it done quite a few times but mostly this is done on soccer mom minivans that hire a detailer services and STRESS the importance of focusing on the interior. If these auction automobiles you're working on have stains that you can see and the only way to get to it is to remove the seat then yeah why not.



What I see more of (and have never done myself) is taking the wheels off to really clean the barrels, brake and suspension components etc...



Disclosure: I'm just a weekend warrior/hobbyist with this detailing but over time these sites make me think I know more than I really do...lol Welcome to the forum.
 
I worked at a used BMW dealer and we strictly used compressed air. Unless there is a bad stain i.e.: wine on a tan carpet or coca-cola on light carpet, there is little need for seat removal. And, you run into liability issues when you start removing nuts and bolts and electric connections for seat controls. Finally, it's a time killer for seat removal and re-installation.

For auction cars there's really no sense at all to go all out and remove the seats. I do on private details that require it. But in this case I don't see any advantage to your pocketbook or business by doing such things. Just use the compressed air and be done with it.

Buy some Floex, it should take care of the coffee stains.
