Interior Cleaning vs. Dressing

Can someone explain to me what products you might use to actually clean the inside of your car before you treat it with a dressing like say 303? In all my reading on here I only see 303 mentioned as a protectant and no one ever mentions what to clean the rubber or vinyl with before applying it.

I use Automotive International's Omni All purpose cleaner to clean the interior vinyl. It looks like a diluted Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity but thats only based upon color.

You may also use a soapy solution of dawn and warm water, then follow up with a rinse and dress with 303.

I have read that 303 has very mild cleaners, but a good cleaning once or twice a year is good.

Meguiars #39 is also a vinyl cleaner, but I would only use this for stubborn stains.

I have used just some soapy water and a terry cloth to sort of scrub the dash.

There was one extreme case where I used Simple Green Diluted in water with an interior scrub brush on the dash of my moms sebring which had dust and dirt literally caked on it.

But if you are here at autopia you probably wont be having those problems.
