Interesting Color looking for some Lovin

Hey all in December I bought a 2003 SVT Focus thats Competition Orange. I've never been to huge in the detailing seen because I never really cared. Well now that I have a brand new car I do care. So is there any type of kit I should get that would be perfect for my Orange Color Paint. I have heard of Menzerna and thought about using that. I've been told thats top notch as far as shine goes. Don't really want to spend a whole lot on the kit because I need to buy all new towels and applicator pads because well my parents have always used beach towels to dry the cars. I'm so ashamed :lol. But anyways I do notice a few little marks that I think are tar right on my door so would a clay bar take those off or should I use some type of bug and tar remover. I just recently washed my car with Meguiars Crystal Wash or whatever it may be and then waxed it with some silicone glaze wax that my parents bought from Amway. The Wax was easy to apply and take off. In the past the wax has held up for a month or so. I'm assuming thats pretty crappy or pretty decent? Well enough of my rambling on let the comments roll in. I recomend clicking learn at the top of the page and finding the how to wash article asap. Most damage to a car's paint is done by the owner during washes. You have a rare treat in that car.



I'd say:

Learn to wash

Wash weekly

NXT every other week/every month

AIO (or similar cleaner/sealant ColorX) every quarter year

Clay every year



When you read more and learn more, you won't ask what products to use, you'll ask how a product is compared to what you already know.

Opinions on the tar vary. I use clay, but if you're gonna polish/rewax anyhow then the solvent approach would work fine too. DO clay the car though.



1Z polishes are *VERY* easy to use, and leave wax behind. If you're working by hand, I think those would be easier to use than the Menzerna ones. You could probably get by with just their Paint Polish (green can).



As suggested, study up so you know what to do before you start. Developing good wash/dry technique is just *SO* important.
 
It kinda depends on what you want your car to look like. If you want it to be really shiny, you could use something like Zaino, but if you want it to be really deep and rich looking you should probably use MEg's #26 or possibly #16. For the "dipped in vegetable oil" look as Scottwax calls it, Poorboys EX-P seems to work really well. Any way you go about it though, dont expect to spend less than 50-75 bucks initially on products. You'll probably eventually end up with quite a collection like the rest of us. Good luck.
 
yea I figured that I would end up spending a lot of money..on detailing products to see what I like the best. I will hopefully have pics posted tonight. Thats another thing I need to invest in is a good digi camera so I don't have to use my dad's camera
 
Wow man - I love the color. I just bought a 2004 Scion xB that's that "Hot Lava" color and I've been lookin for a good detailing guide on it, and this thread's been really helpful...
 
thanks Kolgoth! yea its not a color you see very often so its not easy to go off by what people have been using for their silver or black colored cars.

StickKing - I live in Niles unfortunately haha. Thats right by Mishawaka/South Bend area. I work in Mishawaka because its a 15min drive from where I work.
 
Well, I bought some Gold class cleaner and wax. It turned out great considering I don't think I've ever detailed a car to the fact that I cared how it looked. Still learning as time goes on. BUT...when I was doing it I noticed one thing..scratches. I think its in the clearcoat because they look like they are in a big circle all over my hood. I don't know if its all over the rest of the car but I know that I got the scratches from the dealership. If I can steal my dad's digi I can show you what the scratches look like but I want them gone! haha. Anyways. I'm slowly bringing in more money so I can purchase better products.



Are there any chicago area detailers. I live about two hours from chicago. I live about 15 min from Notre Dame University so if any of you know a few that may be able to help me with my new hobby that would be great! Thanks :D
 
Wow... imagine that. Dealer installed swirls, for free!



Check out articles in the "learn" icon about PC (Porter Cable DA Buffer) usage. With the right product (Meguiar's #83 DACP or Menzerna IP, etc.) you can definately reduce those scratches and probably make them disappear all together.

ok I'm starting my new job and will be taking the plunge and getting everything that I can possibly get to get rid of those spider swirls. I'm getting better and better at cleaning the car and polishing and waxing. I thought about saving some money and not getting a PC and doing everything by hand butt when I was detailing my parents car I realized how much a pain in the but it is spending countless hours rubbing in the cleaner/polish and wax. So I'm going to take the plunge and either get the Cyclo or PC 7424. What do you guys recommend. Or should I get both?! I'm not going to be doing this as a business but you never know especially sence I don't know of many detailing shops around here that actually do a good job at it. So this is what I was thinking. Menzserna twins, Klass AIO, VM, EX-P,then all the necessary tools to clean my wheels, some nice towels, all the pads for the PC I think I need the white pads and the orange cutting pads? Are there any other pads I need for the PC? Thanks for all the help!
