Sorry to bring the insurance thing up, but i need it. Looking for general liability and maybe get my truck insured under commercial auto. Anyone know any good deals for insurance carriers, cuz i need it. I would love to know what u guys do for insurance?

thanks

Sorry, I'm in Canada.
I shopped around, got 4-5 quotes.
What I ended up getting was:
-shop ins, liability, car, & renters (home) all in one at 20% off (plus a bond for a dealer license plate)
-for doing 3 things together, I have 1 accident forgiveness or claim forgiveness on my personal insurance

It's worth checking around.

I shopped around with 3 companies I recieved info about from local detailing businesses. Their policies and premiums seemed to be for MUCH larger outfits than mine and were pretty much standard.

I went with State Farm. I have all my personal insurance with them so maybe that helped with the pricing.:) According to my agent (and my experience) the commercial policies they write can be customized to fit your situation. I am in a fixed location (part timer/weekender) with the shop and business seperate from my personal stuff.

I used state farm. I already had cars and home with them. The other local insurance carriers didn't offer what I was looking for, if I recall correctly. The state farm policy was great and inexpensive. $50 bucks a month. Covered the clients vehicle for driving damage and liability, damage while in my possession, and any sort of work related mistakes... plus my supplies and a few bucks for office supplies too. I could have changed my truck over to the commercial policy but never got to that. Never used the policy but nice to have just in case.

Additionally I didn't advertise I carried insurance. I don't feel its something for a small detailing business to advertise. I don't think a detailer advertising having insurance makes them a better detailer. Look at the big car wash chains, they have insurance, do they offer superior services? I had the peace of mind knowing if I screwed up I had someone to help cover expenses. That's all I cared about. I felt some people would try to scam new paint jobs or new interior carpet etc for the busted arse beat up vehicles... because of the service you performed. Even though I did nothing wrong.

For instance I had a client whose car had failed clear coat. I pointed that out and said I can't fix that. Months after the detail she claims I furthered accelerated the damage with my service (new areas of failure were showing up). Surprisingly enough this was a friend of the family.

Good luck.

I just got a quote from All-State for GL for mobile business at 591$/year. This sounds like a reasonable rate. Thought i would let you guys know if anyone was interested in getting insurance.

ps. Im getting another quote from another insurance company sometime this week. If anyone is interested I'll post it when i get it.

G.E.I.C.O!!! had state farm when i first got my f150 ($3500?) full coverage, claimed i got a speeding ticket when i never did raised it to $5000, i refused payment, they dropped me. Got first trenton through a broker, cheaper but started to raise payments and coudln't give a quote on my 2005 VW. Called geico, had the VW insured that night, $2500 full coverage. Then 10 months later got another F150 ontop of my VW. I pay just over $3000 for full coverage on my 2005 VW jetta GLI and 1998 f150.

Joe, did you ever get the quote? Are you looking to get a garage keepers policy and liability, or just one of them. I'm looking for insurance too, and my first quote was $2700/ year. That was with a $1,000,000 liability policy (which I don't need) and the garage keepers.

prolly just getting general liability from my first quote at 590. I actually just got the quote from avery hall yesterday. $1200 garage keepers insurance...$715 gl

What kind of limits did you get with the garage keepers and the liability? It's my understanding that the general liability won't cover damage to the customer's car, right?

I can't believe it takes so long to get these quotes. I know they are all different circumstances, but with technology now, you'd think they would plug in the numbers and get the quote right away.
