Insurance - Yes Or No?

Detailing NY

New member
I have seen many threads about getting insurance for the detail business that members want to start up.

Some things you should find out from your agent before you take the insurance policy out.

1. Are you covered if you damage the car?

what happends if you burn the paint on the car, or tear a leather seat, are you going to be covered.

some insurance policys will not cover this, so be sure you know what you are getting

2. Are you covered if you drive the customers car and crash?

what happends if you pull the customers car out of the driveway and did not see that mack truck coming at you. Or what happends if you run the little old lady over with the customers car.

will you be covered for this, you better hope so, or the person can come after you and your business.

3. Are you allowed to do mobile detailing?

some insurance companies want you in the same location all the time and you may not be covered if you detail somewhere else.

4. What happends if some one gets hurt because of you?

what happends when you are cleaning the car and you are using the hose, then the young kid on the skate board does not see the hose and trips over it and brakes his arm. Will you be covered for this.

Or what happends when you use wheel dressing and someone walks buy and slips on the slippery concrete. will you be covered for this

5. What kind of policy limits will you need & what kind of deductible will you have?

discuss with your agent what is the best policy for you. Depending on your business size you may need a larger policy but if you are small it should be less.

Insurance law is different in every state, so i would suggest you find out local laws before you even get the insurance. Most insurance companies will not take you on unless you are a legal business, which means you must have a tax id # and a business account.
