Inspection

I have a black car that in the sunlight looks pretty darn good.

But if I inspect the finish up close with a hand held fluorescent

light it looks somewhat gray and full of scratches.

Are these scratches something that can be removed without

cutting clear through the clearcoat?

Is this something I want to get rid of?

Should I be looking at the finish with a fluorescent?

Thanks, Kevin

I've had similar problems. In very, very bright sunlight (noon) it looks good. Under fluorescent I may see some stray light coat scratches. I would drive to a well lit gas station at night under fluo and take a quick inspection to double check. You'll be able to check the whole car in 30 seconds.

At certain times of the year, the 12-2pm sun may be so bright as to mask these scratches.

How and what did you use to prep your car?

Washed and clayed, then scratch X, polish, then wax.

Mostly done by hand. A frend loned me his rotary with a foam

pad with a ton of "fingers", this did not add to the scratches.

I am thinking about getting a "Cyclo". Would I still find scratches

like this with a good machine and good technic?
