Insight needed on my Hitachi SP18VA problems

Hey Autopia,

The last 5 details or so I have been having a problem with my Hitachi rotary over heating. Within 30 minutes of use the head is hot and another 30 you cannot touch it as it will burn you. If I work much longer it will not stick at a certain RPM. For example, I will polishing at around 1400 RPM and it will speed up very fast. I've had it for about a year and a half so I figure it's out of warranty.

What do you guys think I should do?

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

To confirm your experience with the Hitachi I have noticed the exact same symptoms with mine but infrequently. Downright scary as h**l when it speeds up instantly!!!

I have issues with mine also. My speed dial is set at 1 and it just goes to 3400 rpm on it's own. Wierd it only does it every now and then only on hoods. Now it's making a clacking noise and gets super hot. They don't build buffers like they use to. Having it rebuilt anyway. Keeping it as a spare. It's only 5 months old if that and a shame it already has issues. I guess they are common problems known to Hitachi. 5 year free warranty was worth it anyway and I am sure it will be back 20 times before it expires.

Also just ordered a Metabo and should be here tomorrow. Hopefully that lives up to the hype and the heavy duty correction work.
