Auto Detail & Restoration
After 15 years professionally restoring and detailing for a high end shop the new owner has laid off all but one employee to finish his cars after that who knows. However the relationships and trust built through the years has opened an opportunity. These customers stayed during the asset purchase per my urging 4 years ago (I was the last of the original crew). I was handling all of the details and 99% of the restoration paint finishing. Upon my leaving I was flooded with calls about what I was going to do and if the choice was to go on my own they would support it (collectors and regulars). My question is our shop was very strict about product use (meguiars and 3m exculsively) due to agreements and fear of change or contamination in the booth. Many of the collections I do on site; and have more room to try different things in which I use the above mentioned and Griot's.

I am familliar with these but I'm alway's open to try new things. My client base is increasing with more driven cars and sometimes the process seems like it could be more efficient. Any and all input on your favorite products, sealers, waxes, etc. especially on repaints and new cars would be great. Feel free to comment on any other product and what part of the detail you use it for and what like about it.

I've never used Poorboys and some of the others mentioned. Again my driver client base is increasing so I'm looking for quality, speed, as some don't want a concours detail. I'd also like things I could safely use on the collections, especially if I can get better results. I'm trying to get an inventory list together.

This is one of the few sites where collectively there seems to be quite a few doing this for a long time and know what they are doing. Thank you guys in advance.

Great position to be in. That said I've been using Poorboys for the last several years, it really my go to on details. The reason is cost, quality and ease of use. I haven't found one other that compares in all three of those categorizes and works as well.

The old saying in detailing is that process is 90% product is 10% I don't think that always applies but in comparison to lot of other lines that I've used over the years of working on cars PB has shined above many..(no pun:D)

I totally agree on process and product. Going from steady check to hand to mouth is a little scarry. Especially for the wife. You guys have made me think of continuing on, along with the customers I don't want to let down. Any preferences on sealers?

You are in a much better position that most, you have the attention of a lot of clients to start off with.

I like PB EX-P its the pure sealant then topped with paste wax its a killer wet looking shine and gives the customer great protection.

I also have used Four Star and Wolfgangs, but I come back to PB line for cost and that I can't see the difference in the car

Great. Love the quote by the way. Still figuring out the forum thing I've only posted on forums before looking for parts/literature on restorations. Still figuring out posting pics and editing (license plates) so people know I'm not full of it. Your input is greatly apprieciated Beemerboy. I've had to constantly revise my profit/loss margin as I discover new things. Thanks again.

I'm fairly new to using PB products and am one of those people who finds what I like and sticks with it. I was a bit skeptical but after placing a large order Ill say it was money well spent and is now my go to wax, polish, and sealant.

I was the same way for a while. I was in the position of whatever equipment, tools I need I just ordered price no object as long as I contributed 50% however shop held the reciepts not mine now. Have to start from scratch. Live and learn. Still have the necessaries for paint, good thing.

We try to work with Pros ... as a retired detailer I understand the need to be competitive as well as being able to work under any circumstances.
We also tend to use our Pro users as testers / sounding boards for new products, even some that never make it to market.
All you need to do is send us your tax ID # to get started with nice discounts:)
