The last paragraph has some info important to detailers who might have customers with the new paint. The color code can be found on the B-pillar.

Scott...

I had you in mind when I posted this...knowing all the Benzs you work out regularly :) But all hand, you should have no problems. But it might be even tougher to do work by hand since the clears are only getting harder from here on out. ;)

But definetly a good thing for the future of paint!

Ron Ketchum, of Automotive International/ ValuGard came by the shop last week.

His take is that we'll see more and more ceramic clearcoats (highline German and Chryslers) quite soon. Good news is that they are hard to penetrate/scratch. Bad news, they are even harder to buff.

He recommends Cerrius (sp) compound...

I've yet to encounter this finish...

Cerium oxide? That's often used as a glass polish, if I'm not mistaken. Interesting.

As the demand for polishes that will work with the new paints grows, I'm sure the big mfrs. like Meg's and 3M will be offering something to fill the new market niche.

How is Grumpy doing Jim? I was hoping to hook up with ROn last month but we were both too busy. I will have the new Autoglym compounds that are designed specifically for the new ceramic clears in the next 6-8 weeks.

ShineShop...

The new Autoglym stuff...what kind of products do they have planned? A polish, selant, wax??? Will you be selling these products?

Thanks,

Chris

I can in fact sell you any Autoglym product you are after as their retail line of products are excellent as well as the professional line. I have yet to get any of the product for this new paint finish so I cannot say what will be included in the line but will follow up if you like when it arrives.

No problem guys...

A week ago, before I got this memo. A small branch near my office fell on the roof area of my '04 SL 500 with the new clear coat. It left a small scratch in the clear coat about 3 inches long. I got out my rotary and hit it with some DACP with W-8006 pad. It definetly took a few more passes then usual MB paint to remove the defect. Finished up with SFP w/W-9006, HP #80 (by hand) and NXT (hand) to finish off. Just like new. But as far as regular maintainence a few months from now, I will follow and use the PC for regular maintainence needs.
