Well today I got burned by a G35. I couldn't get this paint anywhere near what I should have. I felt...I feel so defeated and like I should find a new job. The only way I could get anything done was to use OP twice on every panel with an LC white 6.5 and the Flex. Anything else wouldn't do anything or it would marr the finish even more. I don't know what to say, here are the pics.

The pictures are kind of better than in person if you can believe that.

JoshVette, next time you are down we need to get together so I can learn the art of the ROTARY. Hopefully with that I can do way better work. Hell it might just be me and I should have been able to get it out with the Flex. I don't know, whatever, today was a bad day.

it must look alot worst in person cause the after pics looking good to me. i know you said OP was strongest you could use without causing marring but remember most compounds will cause marring. that is why you follow up with a less aggressive polish to remove compund marks. also you should get some wool pads for those tough jobs. wool will cut quick. if it does not come out with wool then it is not gonna come out. and a rotary will help out alot. just respect the power of the machine

Worst paint ever, very very very very very very soft, you did what you could.

Agreed. I hate, hate, hate, hate polishing black G35s. Such a fine line between correction and haze.

Considering how horrible it was, I think you made a vast improvement.

drop me an email or call me. I have done a few and have been at the same spot. It might be of help bounce some ideas off me.

You can get my number off my homepage.

Thanks for the comments.

Keep it clean- I tried using compound with a cutting pad and then tried compound with polishing pad and its not that it left marks(the cutting pad yes marked but didn't help correcting), it just didn't do anything at all. I didn't understand why the polish was doing more than the compound. I was confused, tired, and quite frustrated all at the same time so I just stuck with what was "working". I might trying to order some wool pads. Will they work well with out a rotary?

Grouse-Thanks I might just have to do that some time.

Thanks again guys

man, you have no idea. I have tried everything on my 350z and its the same way. I have buffed my car(full details) about twice and its still not perfect!!

When I got my G35 in '04 and posted my message here on this board, everything everybody suggested didn't work. Also there wasn't anybody that had a black G35 that could give a personal experience. What finally works for me now is Prima Swirl with a PC and LC white pad. Meguiar's M66 with a rotary and black pad is wonderful as well. Also Menzerna 106F with white pad and PC. If I want to work fast LC orange pad with Swirl.I have a section of the vehicle that was repainted so my job is even more difficult than you can imagine, because the repainted paint is soooooooooooooo soft.

When I am done it is absolutely flawless. I have the car now almost 4 years, so you can imagine how much practice I have had to get it to where it is now.

I feel your pain. I've worked on mine, it seems forever. For such supposedly soft paint, it doesn't correct very easy even though it marrs easily. I got fines lines reappearing and believe me I do everything by the book.

When I wash I use a grout sponge, but will try a very very soft microfibre towel. This microfibre towel is not the usual towel and will try that and see how it goes. I usually dry the vehicle with a combination leaf blower and dabbing with a large mf towel. After that I don't touch the car until the next wash, absolutely no QD. I useto to QD every couple of days and that just introduced more fine lines. So no QD on this black G35.

I'm beginning to think it happens when I dry, even though I use a clean micro ww from Excel every time. Don't think I could find a softer one.

If you don't already, try blotting your car dry instead of wiping and see if that works.

There is a mf towel is fits like a glove without fingers that is exceptional soft, like velvet. I think its called starfish.

Have you tried anything a little more abrasive, say like HTEC? Or maybe a SIP?

I'm surprised since if the paint is that soft that Opti doesn't make a dent.

On a detail I just did I started with Opti but it didn't do anything, changed to Menzerna and whamo. Done.

Good luck though, I hope you get it figured out!
