Infiniti G35 Coupe

I've been recruited by my parents to do some research for them for their next car purchase. Considering the types of people I see on here, I figured this would be a good place to ask. Is there anyone who has had any experience with a 2004-2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe? Good experiences? Bad experiences?

I'll be doing the standard searches on Consumer Digest, epinions, Motor Trend, etc., but wanted to ask here as well. Thanks in advance.

Theres almost no headroom in the backseat so I wouldn't buy it to transport more than 2 ppl.

That's not really a requirement for them I don't believe. I'm off to college with their Jeep and I believe they are looking for a fun touring car to take to California.

EDIT: That was a very quick response by the way.

A "touring car" might include some trunk space for long trips.....

The Infinity G35 is a fun little sports car. Tell them to make a list of cars they like and test drive each car on the list. Take notes and compare pro's and cons. That's part of the fun when car shopping.....

Good luck.....:xyxthumbs

Yeah. They really have been comparing for a while. What I'm really looking for is first hand experiences on quality, daily drivability, and other long term aspects.

I've had a lot of second-hand (passenger) experience. I've ridden in the front and back several times. One would think of it as a sport tourer, but it is not by any means. I think of it as a Z with tiny back seat. It rides quite rough (especially in back) even with the 17" std tires/suspension. The front buckets are very supportive, but too narrow if you are medium build. Great car otherwise, but I wouldn't think of it as a comfortable, touring coupe.

If they want more space they could get the sedan. My friend's dad has an '05 G35x sedan and it's absolutely amazing, what a blast to drive. Plenty of room for trips and it's got speed to kill. The handling and braking is up in the top of all the cars i've driven. They won't be dissapointed.

Gas mileage is consumptive for an engine of its size. ~18-23 mpg mixed city/highway depending on how spirited the driving is. Some engines had oil consumption problems as well.

Overall an excellent vehicle.

My 2003 G sedan has been bulletproof and the funnest car to drive I've owned. The power and handling still impresses me every day. The car is no slouch, even compared to the coupe. It also has 14.5 cubes of trunk space (plenty big for a sedan).

I used to own a 05 InfinityG35 sedan. Going in I knew the interior was built and looked cheap. After a few months I could not take it anymore so I sold it and got a 05 Acura TL. The interior is so much better and the TL has many more technical gadgets than the G35. The TL is a superior car in everyway IMO.

You used to own an Infiniti, but can't spell the name correctly of the car you used to own. Acura the superior car? Hmm sounds fishy to me... FWD < RWD = not superior Sorry! Technical gadgets only go so far, and also leads to more potential problems. What makes a car is the fun to drive factor and the FWD Acuras will never be able to compete with true RWD sport sedans from Infiniti, BMW, Lexus, Audi and MB. If you want a bunch of gee whiz gadgets and a boring ride, then the Acura is the way to go, IMO. And, being that I have no problems with my interior, I guess I get a nice interior and a fun to drive car/driver's car = far superior to the posh Accord.

Couldn't agree with you more. My '93 Jag (BTW - RWD), was totaled by a drunk last summer. My settlement was grim. So, I methodically test drove 25 cars. I just realized that I needed a RWD car replacement. And I focused in on the Sport Sedan market. I quickly eliminated the BMW 3 series, since my wife's BMW crapped out aft 88K - bad tranny, $7K to fix from the dealer. But I did test drive it anyway, along with Lexus IS/ES series, but only FWD. MB C230 was pretty spartan and low CR marks. I just could not walk away from the Infiniti G35 Sedan. It was priced an easy $10K less than a similarly equipped BMW, Lexus and MB. The other thing that got me was the extremely long wheel base of the G35 sedan (coupe is the same) of 112 inches. That is .8" shorter than my long wheel base Jag XJ6! All for a loaded (option C pkg with rosewood) price of $32K, out the door - taxes, plates, fees. The 3.5 liter engine is smooth and powerful, 290HP. And did I say, I love that RWD.

Most people never drive the cars hard enough to the point where the RWD vs. FWD makes a difference. You're (hopefully) only testing the handling limits of a car on the racetrack, where they will certainly behave differently. While I haven't driven the TL, I know that FWD cars like the TSX and the Mazda6 can be every bit as involving as RWD ones in daily driving (unless you manage to kick out the rear with the throttle on right turns into the Stop n Shop parking lot? LOL). I, too, find the G35 interior a little cheap, but it really doesn't bother me...what gets me are those STUPID seat adjusters, which I hit with my leg and the seat moves...they're the reason I'd NEVER buy a G35.

I have to admit the G35 because of the RWD has the edge over the TL when it comes to handling. But I wasn't thinking of handeling when buying a +3300lbs sedan. I have another car for that. Either car does not really give the driver much feedback when putting the car through the paces. You probably haven't heard the DVD-A stereo on the TL TigerMike. I guess you would consider it one of those gee whiz gadgets but it is something to behold. It sounds like I stuck a nerve with you for which I am sorry but coming from a person who owned both cars I hope you can get over it.

Defintily go with the sedan, I have a 05 Sedan 6MT, with sport package, and its flawless. Handles very well, and has plenty of torque from that VQ motor... Go for it !

The 2007 G sedan has a much improved interior which hardly looks or feels cheap. 306hp for the $$ is a pretty good value, too.

If it were me, I would be looking at the 07 G. However, they are now considering a new Charger Daytona. I'm trying to convince them of a 300C SRT-8.

My sister owns the latest TL and I have sat in hundreds of G's...I would get the Gc! The VQ makes such nice noises. I don't know about actual acceleration though. I have only driven the G35x (sedan+auto) and it handeled pretty good, but it didn't feel as sporty as a s 300ZX.

GC's also look much nicer than a TL IMO. I think the man to ask is Picus, although he has a 335 *drools*. :D thats a real drivers car! I had the oppertunity of test driving one and it is oh so nice. I think the G can be faster if you get a performance package...but its a 335...need I say more.

Have you ever driven the "posh Accord?" I read a couple of recent reviews that compared the new G, IS350 and TL and while the IS and G were quicker (more power) the TL was a better handler than the G. TL's hold value like crazy as well.
