Incredibly hard MB clear, yet dealer still trashed it (pics, 56 ouch)

Hey guys. This is a 2006 Mercedes S65 AMG (v12 twin turbo 610hp). Anyway in one wash, I was not aware such devastation could occur. I had previously hand washed the car 3-4 times and it had minimal if any swirling..the car has around 4k miles on it. It was at the dealership for something and the car's owner had them 'hand wash' it. The horror you're about to see is amazing for one wash IMO. Secondly, I had a horrible time correcting the paint. I just taped off half the hood to see what all I had to do. Well two passes with OHC and a LC white VC pad @ 1500rpm, followed by OP w/pc on 5 made a definitely big difference, but didn't get it perfect. I'm thinking I need something with a little more cut than the white polish pad, but I'm still surprised. The infiniti I did recently only needed OC and the same white pad to totally deswirl it! Here are the before/afters.. Comments/suggestions appreciated. Hold on to your seats, you're about to see what the 'professional' dealer did to a $180k car. These 'before' pics are after a wash/clay. Can you believe the dealer did this!? :wall

And some nice trails

Here are the afters which I'm still not that pleased with, but are an improvement..

i know the new 06 MBZ use a really tough CC that menzurna makes a specific polish for . . .

you may need that specific product to get the finish flawless, chek out this link . . .http://www.properautocare.com/pofornececlc.html

but on the flip side these new rock hard clear coats are suposst to be really tough . . which makes me wonder what the hell they used to "hand" wash that 180K car. I would be furious if I got my Nissan Truck back from teh dealer like that . . I dont even want to think about how I would react if my MBZ was delivered to me in such a condition . . .

Lightman it looks good....

it doesnt amaze me to see this from stealerships heck even you local carwash....

man if this was my vehicle and the stealership return that to me i think i would casually walk to my vehicle go to my trunk and open it & pull out my Louisville Slugger well you know the rest hehe!!!

Opt OHC new formulated is due out soon so that can help or there are other mixes you can do if you dont want to wait just use the search feature.....

let us know how you handle....

I think that just illustrates how easy it is to mar CC finishes, even if they are the scratch-resistant ones, especially black. I guess the easy answer as to how they can treat a $180K car that way is that they don't think it will alienate most customers or prevent them from selling the car. Sending an occasional car to an Autopian-level detailer for correction when a customer complains is a lot cheaper than having educated, trained workers using more expensive supplies taking 4 times as long to wash the car.

Can I ask why owners of these vehicles don't go back to the dealership that screwed up their paint and do something about it?

I mean that I hope that the dealership paid for the professional detail after hacking up the paint in the first place...

A dirty wash mitt can easily scratch CC. It's scratch resistant not "scratch proof."If it was scratch proof, in the not to distant future we would be out of a job :buffing: , because manufacturers are starting to go to that process when it comes to painting new vehicles.

Like Fdizzle said. Can you say "Menzerna!!!"? I would have used 106ff to correct that screwed up job. That's what it's made for.

^^ Because they'll just make it worse.

True but at least go back, show them the damage they caused and insist they pay a real professional to correct it. If everyone would complain, they'd do something about their crappy work.

I work at a dealership and see first hand this kind of thing happen. When my car is in the shop for whatever reason, I make sure it is clearly marked as a "do not wash" vehicle. Even if they are extremely careful with the wash, which they are not, typically, the result is less than satisfying for the "picky" customer. MF towels are not used to dry off vehicles but rather terry cloth, which feel rough to the touch. Those are not coming in contact with my black SLK.

I agree with Scottwax. They need to be made aware of the situation.

I've done some idiotic washing in my time with dirty mitts and didn't do that much damage, let alone in one wash. What do you think a dirty mitt is... rocks and sand??? :lol Like I've posted before, it looks like the work of one of those brushes on a pole. They make quick work of washing a car, trouble is the swirlls. Dealerships all over seem to be using them without a care in the world. :wall

I have a feeling they ran his car through their automatic wash, even though it's marked in their system as hand wash only. The corrected side does look pretty good upon second inspection today, however it was a good bit of work.

So this menzerna polish for the mercedes clear - is it stronger/more aggressive than say OHC or PG? I didn't try the powergloss. I was also using a polishing pad, probably should get a light cutting or cutting pad for the rotary.

If you read this it says German cc are SOFT
If you read a little further down you'll see a June, 2005, Update:

Mercedes and Rolls Royce have begun their switch to the new, super-hard, ceramic clear coats. The Maybach and 2005 Rolls Royce Phantom are using BASF's new nano particle, ceramic clear while PPG's CeramiClearâ„¢ is being used on 2005 C-Class Mercedes automobiles. Material Innovations (an industry trade journal) quotes a Mercedes Benz spokesman as saying, "CeramiClear will make it through the Mercedes range throughout the year (2005)."

Sorry My bad
No problem, it does get confusing sometimes! I dropped the ball on ordering some Menzerna P085RD when it was still available here in the states, so I recently picked some up from a place in Ireland.

Yes, I can believe it. Actually, doesn't surprise me at all. What surprises me is when dealer does not do something like that.
