In the market for a Porter Cable

I'm in the market for a new polisher to remove some light scratches. Would the Porter Cable 7336SP be a good choice for polishing? I read that it has variable speed from 2500 to 6000 rpm, would I be better off with one that operates at lower speeds? Thanks for any help!

The Porter Cable 7336 is a great all around polisher. It will improve all finishes except for the ones in really neglected condition that will require a rotary buffer or re-paint.

For light scratches and swirls, the PC and pad kit from CMA will do very well along with a good selection of polishes.

The PC is a good choice. You can also consider the cyclo. It is a dual head DA polisher. I've never used it but have heard some people like it.

I use a DeWalt Random Orbital Sander DW443. It has a more powerful motor than the PC and I think it can go a little faster. It also comes with a 6" velcro backplating and a balance. It is really balanced well for the 6" pads CMA sells for the PC. I hardly recieve any vibration.

They are all safe. Its like a hand gun; they are safe untill they get in the hands of a child. ;) If you use a PC incorrectly then you will totally screw up your car. You have to work pretty hard to do it but it can be done. The DeWalt is more of a machine for an experienced user. I don't know that I'd recommend it to a beginner with a polisher. You will really enjoy cutting your teeth on a PC. Move up to a more powerful tool when you get some experience.

The Dewalt I'm talking about is the same thing as the PC.

DeWalt also makes a rotary polisher but I don't have any clue what model # it is. This is a Random Orbital Polisher. It is exactly like the PC.

The DeWalt 443 is safe, like the PC.

The DeWalt 849 is the rotary.

Pc or Intel's DeWalt 443 is the way to go.

DeWalt 849 or Makita 9227 = need mroe experience...

I have the PC 7336sp. With some great hints picked up from this board and some common sense from previous hand applications, the first use of this machine was very easy.

I would say go ahead and pick one up it's a great tool for the auto buff.

Plus with the sp package it come with a selection of sanding discs and backing plate for additional jobs around the house.
