The owner contacted me about doing an exterior correction on his MKIII cabrio before a local show Bug-out. We talked about the time/money needed for correction and how much would be needed. We decieded that a one-step correction would do the trick. Being that this car had a fresh respray in BMW Imola Red about a year ago the finish was not in all that bad shape as you can see from the before pics. The car had light washed induced swirls and water spots and thats about it.

Process

Wash/clay

-Two bucket wash w/ Megs Gold class

-DP Extreme Auto foam/Dawn mix via AG Foam cannon

-Pinnacle Clay bar

-Red LC wash mitt

-Dried with LC HD WW towels

Fabric Top Treated w/ 303 fabric convertible top kit

Wheels/Tires

-Various Brushes w/ P21s Wheel Gel

-Meg's Gold class tire gel

-Wheel wells received some Aerospace 303

Correction

-PCXP 7424

-Megs 205 New DA ver. w/ LC White pad (3 Passes)

LSP

-Black Fire Wet Diamond Paint Sealant

-DoDo Juice Super Natural

All exterior textured trim received some Black WoW

Total Time: 10 hours

The car arrived fairly clean as the owner had washed it earlier in the week. I tried to capture the defects the best I could. Its been raining on and off this weekend so the before and aftershots lack full sun shots. I did manage to get just a few when the storm decided to break for a few mins.

Wheels were dirty.

Whees after

So after the wheels were clean the car received a nice foam bath via AG foam cannon. Let foam dwell for 5 mins then washed it with a 2 bucket method.

After the wash and clay you can see the real defects. light to moderate swirling from washing and a good amount of water spots.

After drying the car with some LC HD WW towels I taped it up and did a test spot on the hood. It was found that 3 passes with a LC white pad with M205 would do the trick. This process was followed through out the entire car.

Using the Brinkman to show correction on the right side of the hood.

A few 50/50's of this area using different lighting

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection053.jpg

I then moved on to the left side of the hood. Here are a few shots showing defects.

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection061.jpg

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection062.jpg

Here is after with a bunch of different lights

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection065.jpg

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection064.jpg

Finally a bunch of gloss was restored.

I then moved on to the pillars. Here is a nice before shot of one.

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection009.jpg

Then a 50/50 shot

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection095.jpg

I got this side of the car done and tons of gloss was restored. Here are a few reflection shot

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection108.jpg

I brought the car outside to check my work, but ofcourse the sun wasnt out...

So took the car back into the garage and started on the other side. My camera died at this point so no pics of that side being corrected. Here is one. I went and got some more batteries for the after pics so dont worry.

RedMKIIICabrioExteriorCorrection120.jpg

These next shots are after correction and before LSP\

I then brought the car back in and applied a coat of Black Fire Wet Diamond paint sealant and let cure for 12 hours before removing. I followed this up with a coat of DoDo Juice Super natural...The next day there still wasnt any sun.

So Here are the afters

Opps... good call, I used 3 passes of 205 on a LC White on this entire car....I copied and pasted my last posting and thought I changed it. Thanks for the correction.

What does 3 passes mean" You completely broke down the polish wiped clean and reapplied?

Do you find that pillars to be softer clear is it just the as like door clear?

Great work BTW!

Since the Megs twins 105 and 205 are non deminishing polishes they dont break down. You work them until you get the finish you want before the polish dries. I properly prime my pads then if I feel the polish is getting to dry I will spritz my pad with some water or polishing pad conditioner and continue working the panel until the defects I want gone are well, gone. Then wipe all the residue off afterwards with my MF and follow that with an 50/50 water/ipa wipedown and check with lights or sun to insure proper correction.

Say you are working on a 2x2 section of paint. One pass would be going from left to right, working your way down the entire panel. Then Up and down moving across the panel. Once that is complete that is 1 pass. I did that process 3 times. Kinda hard to get a visual so pm me if you need more clairafication.

I also found that the clear on the pillar to be just a bit softer and also heat up more than a normal painted panel so I took special care in making sure I didnt not burn through.

I agree Nushine, the BFWD and dodo SN looked amazing on that red. Thanks for the comments guys
