Immediate pad cleaning

Hey all,

I've got some Edge pads on the way, and have not purchased and degreaser to soak them in to clean them (except for the NXT spray pad cleaner). Would it be effective, or even a good idea to spritz the pads with the NXT degreaser and then soak them in vinegar or a vinegar/water mix? Or would that ruin the pads?

I know this works wonders for microfiber towels so I was wondering if it was safe for foam pads too.

I just use a bucket of hot soapy water, and let them soak for an hour or so and then rinse off with the hose. Nothing special needed.

He must mean the XMT pad cleaner....

I just spray the pads with a diluted APC mix....let it dwell a few minutes and wash in a bucket of warm water with dawn or something like it and rinse till soapy water runs clear and drip dry..

I do not think vinegar is going to do anything ...

That's what I meant, XMT.

So a bucket of soapy water/apc it is!

Thanks

I find that to be 100% the best way (especially pricewise). I fell victim to all the vendors that sell pad cleaning this, snappy clean that, and spent well over $20 on what a $1 thing of Dawn does just fine. Save your money and just buy a bottle of Dawn regular or power dissolver and a specific bucket to soak them in and save yourself the hassle.

Did you get the brush to comb the pad out while your working?:waxing:

No, but I'm figuring I could pick one up at Wal Mart or something for a couple dollars. Just a nylon bristle one right?

It's nylon, but it has to be a stiff nylon brush, and is a must for heavy polishing. The pads cake up pretty quick with thick polishes.

I just use the Danase pad cleaner. A couple of squirts and then into hot water. The stuff just melts off of it.

XMT pad cleaner is AWSOME.

I used to use dawn. I just let the pads soak in dawn and water and then messaged them out with my fingers then rinsed thoroughly. I got the XMT cleaner with my edge 2000 kit and tried it and man is it worlds better than my old method.

Can you tell us why you like it better?

It just breaks up all the polish instantly it seems. When you go to rinse it out it like all the polish just runs right out of the pad.

I got a visual of a little polish guy running away from the pad and the xmt cleaner....haha, great visual I know.

Its really hard to explain.

Ive used it to clean out megs #83, #80 and OP and those just wash right off. I didnt have to message the pad or anything like i ussually do.

Even though some day you dont need the special more expensive stuff I just got some of the DP pad rejuv and it sure helped clean up some pads that had been sitting since winter that were quite dirty. It also helped soften and clean up some pads that had gotten really hard. IMO its worth the $15 so I dont have to replace 10 pads at an average of $12 each.

Its funny you mentioned that DP product, William. I actually have some of that too and I completely forgot about it until you brought it up. I'm going to have to give it a try during my next detail and see how it works.
