If you had $500 to invest

in your business this yr, how would you invest the money.

What equipment would you buy? ie water tank, trailer, pdr tools etc

How much advertising would you do and how?

I would get a good vacuum for starters. I would probably get a portable one since I do a lot of jobs on location. I would also get a nice rotary. Those two pieces of equipment would get me started and I could make money faster to afford the supplies and other things.

As far as advertising goes, I'd get some really nice business cards made. Mine are ok, but I've seen some really nice ones before that I've never been able to justify spending the money on. The best advertising is free because its word of mouth. I just want some flashy cards to pass around.

Any money left over would get dumped into probably some better lighting in my garage. I would love to have 3 or 4 500 W lamps mounted high on the walls. I've got 2 of them on a stand but sometimes they just aren't high enough.

That's about it for me. I only do a few dozen cars in the season. Its not my main source of income so I tend to just take it easy and not do too much looking for jobs. I wouldn't be able to handle the volume if I advertised. I would go more serious but the season ends in October and won't start up again till about May. It sucks here. I wouldn't be able to make a living at it in Utah as a profession. Its affords me some great play money as a hobby though. :xyxthumbs

what are you lacking right now?

When I spend money on my business, I look at where I NEED to spend it, or what will give me the biggest return.

Those two are my primary things to look at when I come out in the Black after all bills are paid and set monthly % of earnings are put into the bank.

I myself am probably not looking for anything Ijst threw the question out there for discussion. Detailing is not my main source of income either. However last summer I probably did 12-18 different customers cars and took a majority of the money I made and reinvested it mostly equipment, I ws fortunate enough to make enough to buy.

1. (2) PC's w/an array of different pads

2. Small ozone generator

3. Rigid 16 gallon vac

4. Mytee hot water extractor, was major nvestment

5. Enough supplies/MF's etc for this next season

Word of mouth and quality workmanship are my only sources of advertising

I also owe a great amouny of what I have learned from this forum, the tips and advice about products and techniques one receives here is unmatched anywhere

Hmmm,

What would I do with an extra $500 for my business? I would hire someone to detail my truck!

Honestly I would invest in sweatshirts, some hats and T-shirts with my logo printed on them.

Evidently you must have hit the wrong keys.

PC???;)

New Ford and GM cars and trucks have some pretty rock hard paint. I want one mostly for removing scratches. I normally can remove light to moderate swirls by hand with no problem.
