Idiots at detail shop did a terrible job!

Vehicle: 2008 Magnetic Black 350Z. Purchased 12/08, 2K miles.

So in a negotiated deal with my Nissan dealer, a local detailing shop did some work on my new Z. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to keep tabs on the shop and what they would be using to detail my car. I also let them do the next wash on the car because I, again, did not have time to do it myself. (:hairpull)

The products they used were by 3D. They used the HD-Uno to 'color sand' as they called it and HD-Poxy for wax. I was planning on doing a nice JetSeal and Pete's 53 treatment on the paint today and noticed a ton of problems.

The car is plagued with holograms. The trunk has terrible marring all over it and, to top it off, the entire car is covered in swirl marks. I also noticed small white dots and raised paint specks all over the car. I'm just so pissed right now I can't even think straight!

I don't know what to do next. I'm guessing I can have the paint thickness measured to see if it can afford another polish by a real professional this time?

*** is HD-Uno anyway and why the hell did they use it?

Anything will help at this point.

That's a little vague...SoCal is an awful big place. There are plenty of Autopians there. If you don't want to be more specific post over in the Southwest Regional forum, but at least give an area code or you're going to waste a lot of (people's) time. Unless I'm misunderstanding you and you want to do this yourself.

Sounds like you've got some overspray that needs to be clayed, and some defects that need to be machine polished out. Also bear in mind that a black car will need to be carefully washed if you don't want to repeat this all the time (I see you have been in the "black paint woes" thread). If you don't have time to do it, you will need to find someone of Autopian quality to do the wash, or leave it dirty, or be prepared to burst a blood vessel every time you take it to someone.

Sorry guys. I meant to put an area code but figured for a quality job I would be willing to venture to any part of So Cal. I didn't know there were so many.

I live in the 626/818 area and work in Westwood.

I visited Wax Workz/Chemical Guys in Whittier on Friday and picked up all the goods. I'm capable of doing a meticulous and careful wash, which I plan on doing from here on out.

So any thoughts on the 3D product they used? I don't know where this leaves the paint in terms of thickness, etc.

Thanks again, fellas.

Is that up in Excel's neck of the woods? Patrick?

EDIT: Westwood??? That's almost in Oregon from my Google and Wiki searches...so that can't be right. I think Excel is a bit west of you; perhaps SpoiledMan or Superior Shine.

Some of the new Nissan/Infinity paint can be a total nightmare if they are not polished/compounded correct the first time. Also, the little speckles you are getting are silicone specs from a cheap silicone filler wax that was applied and Nissan paint does not like it at all.

Anyone that uses the term "colorsand", should not even be allowed to work on a new advanced clear coat system like this.:rules:

To be totally honest, Nissan/Infinity should not touch the cars at all. They do more damage to their cars then anything.

I know I have done quite a few of them that were beyond hammered and they are my most hated car when they get hacked by a detailer/dealer.

Find a qualifed detailer here to polish it correctly and hopefully it turns out great.

Good luck!!!!!

The thickness should be 4.5 mils. If it is anything less than that then:cry:

I did one over the winter that was hacked big time by the factory that left pefectly 4 inch round halos every square inch along with being gooped by the dealer with millions of little white/gold speckles and the thickness was from 2.3 plus.:wall

I feel for you buddy. Seems like everytime you get a new car the dealer messes it up. I tell them not to wash or prep it. Brizzles are dealy on paint. I know you will get it lookin good!!!!!
