Identifying paint imperfection

I need help determining what this paint imperfection is and how to correct it. This is on the roof of a VW. It had been stored outdoors for 6 months. The mark seems to be under the clear. You cannot feel it with your finger; the paint is smooth. I tried SIP by hand..nothing. I tried DG 501 cleaner by hand..nothing. I believe it's a leaf that stayed on there for months and decomposed into the clear. The pattern of the imperfection looks like it could be from a leaf. I really have no idea what it is. Other than going at it by wet sanding a bit, I have no idea IF it can be corrected. Anyone else ever get anything like this? I thought I had seen damn near everything...maybe that's just at work:grinno:

My guess is clear coat failure. But it also looks like something was added to the paint (like someone spray painted it a long while ago), and now it's drying and cracking off. Hard to tell without moving your head around it and letting the light play with it.

That's the result of bird poop. The paint is clearly cracking and cannot be repaired.

O.K. Dave..but if it was cracking (I know it looks like it to me too)..wouldn't you be able to feel it with your hand..the paint's smooth as silk.

Can you feel it with the tip of your fingernail? Try looking at it under a magnifying glass. Acid rain damage(cracking) can't be felt, but it cracks the paint. It doesn't look like clearcoat failure to me. I'll bet it's an external problem instead of an internal condition.

I'll get it back next weekend to do..but I agree with your assesment..I think I'll try to wetsand it and compound it out.
