Ideas on how to clean the INSIDE of a headlight?

Yup...may sound weird, but I bought a set of headlights and the cardboard box they arrived in left some cardboard "lint" inside of them . Can anyone recommend a way to to clean without having to take them apart?

Here's what the headlight looks like:

I can fit something through the center of those two circular reflectors...any ideas?

Thanks!

Matt

if that doesnt get it out, take some distilled water and pour it in the headlights swish it around pour it out and wait for it to dry, since its distilled water it wont leave any waterspots

Or maybe alcohol and compressed air. But something to consider- if they are so loosely constructed that cardboard lint gets in there, what're they gonna be like after the rigors of normal use :scared

The dope that installed my Whelen strobes left some residue in my headlight housings so I have to do the same thing. I found some long wooden q-tips at work that I will try and if they won't reach a small dowell with some cotton or gauze on the end might do the job. Good luck!

I agree with Accumulator, a can of air would do the trick, but your going to get more dust/dirt in them again. So be ready to take them off every once in awhile and do it again.

I bet that the bulbs aren't already in the headlight housing, which is why cardboard lint was able to get in there. If the bulbs were in there, send em back!

You could probably take em to a gas station and blow em out w/ the air hose.

just a piggy back to this thread-How about if you have moisture inside of the headlight. I have one brand new headlight and one that is 8 years old. I know how to get rid of the yellowing on the on the outside, but I have moisture on the inside of the older one, also I would like to clean the inside by polishing and wetsanding to make it look new. Any tips?

what's the best way to get rid of yellowing on the headlights. I know my dad's car has it really bad on his jetta? Thanks for the help!

take off ur headlights, use a blow dryer to blow it dry either that or put it outside in the sun. While youre at it use some RTV silicone to seal up your headlights so it wont leak in water

You are right, perry...the housings were shipped w/o the bulbs which is why lint was able to get in there. With the bulbs on, the housings are sealed air tight with a twist of a gasket of some sorts.

Thanks for the replies, guys/gals...I'll try out your suggestions.

Glad to hear that! Sorry about jumping to an incorrect conclusion; the last [Euro] headlights I ordered came with bulbs in them, so I just didn't think of the obvious :o :D

No worries :) Yeah I think most housings ship with the bulbs and all (and ballasts if HID), but I just bought the housings separate from all the components since that is all I needed.
