I think I'm becoming an OPTIMUM convert!

I've only tried two products so far, both just recently this past week. But I am very impressed!

Optimum No Rinse

Great stuff. I think I too will become a QEW --> ONR convert. (although I still have over 3 qts of QEW left). I washed my wife's car on the weekend, using a chenille mitt. And I did my daily driver last night, using a Home Depot Grout Sponge. (And I have to say, I think I prefer the GS. :secret)

Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer

I love this stuff. For both vehicles that I ONR'd recently, I finished off by spritzing the entire car with this spray and wiping down. Leaves a very slick and glossy finish. I think I have a new favorite quick detailer here. :2thumbs:

(Now I just wish I'd bought the Instant Detailer in a larger quantity, like a gallon jug. Because at the rate I'm going after just two sessions, my 17oz bottle isn't going to last too long!)

Both of those are great, as is Optimum Car Wax. OCW works well when doing the "Scottwax Method" of spritzing it on a cured wax when buffing off. I have 2 of my cars waxed with Collinite 476S. I will wash them with ONR (or QEW), then dry, and add a coat of OCW once a month to give them the freshly waxed look. I can wax a car in 10 minutes with OCW.

Opti Seal is good stuff, too. Probably the wettest, most carnauba-like sealant I've used. I think the bottle will last forever, too.

I've been trying to understand how that works. With Opti-Seal, you spray a little on an applicator, apply it to the paint, and then WALK AWAY? (no buffing off, at all?)

And with the OCW, which is essentially a "spray wax", do you spray and WALK AWAY with that too? Or do you still wipe it off?

I hadn't yet read about the Scottwax method. So he sprays OCW on top of wax that he just applied and had yet to remove, and then buffs off whatever his wax is (eg. CMW) AND the OCW together at the same time?

Yes^

Regarding OCW, you spritz it on the panel, and work it around with a microfiber like you would a quick detailer (but you don't use as much product),=.

Opti-seal-2 squirts on a fresh foam pad to prime it and then 1 squirt per panel. any remaining streaks after 3-5 minutes can be quickly blotted off with a clean MF. A bottle will probably do at least 100 applications.

OCW-I like to squirt about 2 sprays onto a clean MF and apply it from the MF vs. spraying it onto the paint. Flip to the clean side for a final pass.

Optimum Instant Detailer-I've actually struggled to find the perfect mix ratio and usage because I often experience some streaking. It does however leave a very slick and glossy result.

A cool thing I did this past week was added about 3 oz of the mixed OID to a nearly full mix of ONR QD. I wanted my ONR QD to (which i love) to have a bit more glossy/slickness qualitiy to it. So about 15oz of ONR QD and added 3 oz of pre-mixed OID. works great.

So the larger size bottles of OID are actually a "concentrate", not the same strength as the 17oz spray bottle?

Its pretty easy to become one, they make some great products

I started with ONR, then with OPC and then Opti-Seal. Not one has let me down yet. And now I've got on order OCW and OID. Pretty soon I'll have their complete line!!

yes, the 32 oz bottle of OID makes a full gallon (actually you can make a little more than gallon because the suggested mix ratio can streak a little on certain conditions so...)

the 17oz is 'ready to use'...easy math on the better buy.

Indeed! Thanks for the tip!

So their recommended mix ratio is 3 water: 1 QID concentrate. So what ratio are people here finding works better?

I was actually quite impressed with the 'ready to use' version I have in my 17oz bottle, so I probably won't want to stray too far from that.

How well does Opti Seal bond to other products, like Megs Color X? I have Poli Seal, but sometimes when I just want to do a fast job by hand I prefer Color X. OCW seems to work well on anything.

Optimum really make nice products, I am another fan :)

I've used both ColorX and Poli Seal and feel that ColorX is the better product.

That's odd, I've have the exact opposite experience...PoliSeal lasts longer for me too!

EDIT: my bad, I thought you were talking about longevity and bonding issues. If you were talking about cut, then I agree. I think most of the cut of PS comes from your pad, but it has excellent cleaning ability. I have used it on the Cyclo with orange pads and corrected quite a lot with a nice finish though...

Colour X/66 has more cut and more fill than Poli-Seal. I use Poli-Seal often as a final polish/sealant and I love it.

Colour X/66 is better when you want oxidation or swirl removal in a single step and need more cut than Poli-Seal. Meg's D151 has even more cut than Colour X.

I find that I use Poli-Seal more though as I will be doing a polishing step(or two+) before to remove scratches first, so just a mild final polish is needed.

I too use Optimum Polish, ONR, OCW, OID, Protect + and love them all. I have switched out OC and HC for other compounds though.(not enough cut as M105/M95/HTEC etc.)

The magic ratio for OID for me is to put the 32oz container into an empty gallon container and fill it with filtered water right up to the handle area giving you about a 3.5 to 1 ratio and it cut down on any streaking I had on the odd black car.

I'd agree, I actually like it on black! Can't beat how easy it is to use either.

right 32 oz OID and fill the remainder of the gallon with water. That's 1 qt chemical to 3 qts water. Those who have had streaking, might consider a 4:1 ratio. Still plenty of slickness and it becomes even more cost effective.

As far as Opti-seal being compatible. So far I've used it several times as abase sealant (right after polishing) AND I've layered it on top of a fresh coat of Mother's Carnauba with excellent results. I've also used it right after poli-seal (see my 97 Malibu neglected thread LOL).

One thing I've read and dying to try is mixing 1 oz of opti-seal with a full bottle of poli-seal to give the AIO a sealant boost.

I think Optimum products are really compatible and you could come up with a variety of creative 'coctails'.

Starting to sound like I work for Optimum...LOL sorry

I have been using the Optimum Hyper, Polish, Wax and Opti-Seal and cannot say enough about them.

The Opti-Seal is downright silly. Wipe on, walk away, beautiful finish and excellent long lasting protection.

That isn't 3.5 to 1, that is more like 2.5 to 1. If you used 32 oz of OID and then filled the gallon the remainder of the way with water, you would have 3 to 1 (96 oz water to 32 oz of OID).
