I think I need professional help

Don't ever drop your clay
I was sitting at home and at one point looked at the clock. I figured I still have about an hour and a half till wife comes come. I ran to the garage, did a quick Spray & Wipe and then started applying wax. After I finished waxing I found myself polishing the chrome tips of my exhaust. To give a little background, my car was washed 4 days ago, sealants and waxes were applied and each square inch already had at least 3 layers of various product and is very well protected.

It all happened like I was in a trans. It was like someone took over my body and I had no control. I then started realizing that I don't really care how great my car looks (well I do, the paint is in almost perfect shape). But the main thing on my mind was what other stuff I can put on top.

When I joined Autopia all I had was some Zaino "polish" and thirst for knowledge. Now I have amassed a large number of products and I keep applying it for no reason. Normally I'm a reasonable person but this feels like someone else.

At this point I'm open to any suggestions.

Yupp, count me in! I'm thinking of ordering the klasse twins when I'm perfectly happy with my #80, VM, and EX I got going, IT'S INSANITY

Kartoon, I'm the same! I keep amassing products and applying products. I can't drive pass an autoparts store without stopping to look at the waxes....and I keep going out to run my hand over my car!

Its called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder....and its a pre-requisite if you want to be an Autopian!

Are you guys saying that this is "normal" ?

When I'm not "him", I think that kind of behavior is odd, to say the least. I can't even imagine what my wife must begin to think about me.

Same here. No matter how many brands I have, I am always looking for something better and the next revolutionary product.

Last night I was doing research on chemistry, looking up info on super polymers, zonyl, xonyl, co polymers, carbomers, ceramics, kevlar etc.

I'm anxiously awaiting the next technological advancement in paint sealants.

Once my car returns from the panel shop, I will be applying a paint, tire, wheel, glass and interior protection program that is getting close to insanity

Two coats of klasse sg on all exterior glass except front windscreenglass followed by wax on top of that

machine buffing the front windscreen, klasse sg * 3 plus wolfgang and synthetic wax on aluminium wheels, blue magic interior coatings, my experimentary tire protection and ultra gloss shine process which has so far endured today's rain and hail

If I perfect it, the tire will never oxidise, shine for over a month regardless of weather, mud and tire heat from driving.

Paint - klasse AIO, Poorboys SMR, Omikron Bodyseal, Klasse SG * 3 plus P21 S carnauba

Wheel arch RD Black anti rust coating * 3 plus Bitumen coating and clear coat paint

No its not normal...its obsessive...its compulsive...its a disorder!

You're wife will think you're weird, but its no worse than female obsessions with cosmetics or shopping...but its less expensive.

Just don't let it effect your relationship with her and she'll be fine... and you won't have to watch Dr Phil!

As long as you're not denying it, you're OK. Non-autopians would think all of us are insane, but we're all fine with that.

I get compliments on my car's finish fairly often, but I still spent about $90 today on stuff to try and give it a look I'm more satisfied with (but who am I kidding, that'll never happen.)

If its not destructful and not hurting anybody, then there shouldn't be a problem.

It would be a different story and cause to worry if you're buying wax and detailing products all the time and there's no food in the fridge to feed your family.

I often do what you've described. If i have free time, i can use it whatever way i want.

BTW - i shine my shoes every morning before going to work and have special shoeshine for them for the days where i have to make a big presentation. There's something missing if i don't do it.

The situation is rather Mafia-like. Once you are a member of the "club" there's no getting away from it.

You are not alone, that's for sure!I've been an obsessive, compulsive detailer for over 30 years. No sooner do I wax my car,I'm out looking for rain or a reason to wet it!

Wax durability is the least important criterion.

Thanks for all your support. I feel much better now.

Especially that the Poorboy's detailing day is only 25 hours from now ( link )
