I think i may have destroyed all of my mitts !

I was being to good at washing my mitts (5 microfiber mitts and one incredi mitt) in the washer after using them. This time, however there was SAND in the machine left over from our beach vacation. The load prior must have been filled with sand in the towels and clothes. I didn't see any when i put them in the washer, but when i went to take them out there was sand on the edges of the washer barrel. My heart is heavy! Do I need to throw them all away now? I am rewashing them after wiping out all of the sand but I'm thinking they are toast.

I would dry them out well Then blow them out with compressed air. That should dislodge most of the sand. Wash them again, and if you feel safe with the results great. If not you may have to end up demoting them to wheel, engine, or undercarriage duty.

Depending on your circumstances and how you wash your car, there should be frequent occurrences when you have "sand" on your paint; winter driving, rain driving, etc.

So it's likely that your mitts are exposed to "sand" on a regular basis (perhaps in a different "quantity"). Now maybe I'm wrong, and you thoroughly pressure wash your car to remove any large contamination before touching with your mitts. However, if I'm right, then you regularly rely on machine washing to remove said "sand" from you mitts.

Therefore, this really should be no different, and perhaps an extra washing or few should ease your mind. Or throw them all out or demote them as Klock suggested.

What I know about sand is............ it is never fully gone. I would use them for the wheels only or maybe around the house.

My steps for removal.
  1. Air dry
  2. Blown them out with compressed air.
  3. Hand wash in sink being very meticulous.
  4. Re-wash in washer again.

I would just make them your wash mitts for your wheels. I wouldn't take the chance with sand. Look on the bright side...You get to try a new wash mitt :bigups

Yes!! going to look on the bright side i guess, buying more stuff!!! :D

I washed them 3 times in the washer, still bot convinced its all outta there so I will just have to put them to use on something else around the house as suggested.

For me, if I drop a micro on the ground, it's toast.
Never get dried leaves or sand completely out

Sure Waxaddict,

I will mail it to you just PM me your address. I have rewashed it 4 times and water is clear, use at your own risk!

Cool, maybe I can get someone at work to spin it in the centrifuge! I'll send something nice back at ya. PM sent.

I disagree. If I drop a super nice microfiber towel, like a microfiber madness towel, and there is stuff stuck in it I'm not throwing it away. First, I will fill a bucket of warm water and APC cleaner mixed. Then take my grit guard, turn it at an angle and use it as a wash board. Then the towel gets washed alone. If you have to, you might need to pick some of the junk out in the process. You can also constantly run your hand across the towel to see if you feel anything. I have had to do this a few times with a few MM towels and when I got some tar on an Incredimitt. Both times they turned out 100% clean. 😎
