I see spots !!! Oh no Acid Rain

My kid can home for a visit and I did my usual inspection of the car. After washing I found that there were ACID RAIN etchings in the clear coat. This car only has 4000 mile but lives outside 24/7. It was protected, I thought, by Z2Pro so I don't know if the Zaino failed to protect it or if it kept the etching from being worse.

I tried SSR2 on a Green Propel pad and it made the marks less noticeable but they are still there. I don't want to get too aggressive with polishing because this clear coat has to last for several more years.

Has anyone had success using a glaze or filler when dealing with these marks?

What would you do? Any suggestions?

I do not know how exactly these marks look, but if they are close to the ones tha I had on the bike I think I have the solution.

Also, my uncle's black bmw had some marks left by leaves that fell on the car and 90 % of them were taken out by Menzerna Final Polish with a polishing pad on a PC.

The pictures are from my motorcycle and the work was done by hand. I do not have a halogen light, so i appologize, but i think you can see the difference.

AFTER, with one pass of Menzerna Intensive Polish by hand.

Followed up by Menzerna Final Polish by hand as well.

I think that I could do better work with a PC and a halogen light, but these things were sufficient for my purpose.

Hope this helps

Where in PA? I'm in western PA. I feel your pain-my hood has bad acid rain etching. Try the merzerna -otherwise if a mild polish doesn't remove them I'd live with them as a compound will remove some clear. If you have to fill Megs #5 or #9 and Collinite 845 would be a good combo.

Zaino isn't magic, and any LSP can only protect so much and for so long. Etching can sometimes be minimized, but not removed. I have the same thing on my truck. It all depends on how severe it is.

I live in Plum but the car lives in Mars, for you people not familiar with it yes its a real place. Yeah I think I'm going to try Megs #5 topped with a wax. Collinite 845 is what I normally use in the winter but I may use it year round on this car.

Tasty, I'm not knocking Zaino, been using it a few years and really like it but I just wanted to say what was on the car. My regular LSP's are Z2Pro, Megs #16, S100 and Collinite 845.

I like the fact Z2Pro has such a long life and I wonder if that made me try to get too long of a time between applications. Its like Zaino works so good I forgot about it, something that wouldn't happen if I was using wax.

This dude's car in Arizona got hit by a meteor and it messed his paint job up bad, guessed Zaino let him down too, lol. 99% of the time vinager will do the trick if you put it on soon as you see the spots, no LSP can stop mineral etching. Do me a favor and thank me when vinegar works, I'm getting no love here.

Burly-The problem is ACID RAIN not mineral deposits. The acid rain here etches clear coat and I doubt that vinegar is going to stop the etching-you would have to literally wash the car with vinegar every time it rains. I'm assuming the vineagar would strip the sealant or wax too.

It wont etch unless it has time, and if you catch it early vinegar will work. If not just polish after the rainy season if you have any paint left.

can you mix some vinegar in your wash water? is it practicle to do this every wash? will the vinegar strip sealants and waxes?

Plain old water drying on paint can cause etching also. Especially if the water has lots of minerals in it, and is left sitting in the sun. Once it etches into the clear it can be very difficult to remove.
